I have been making my own laundry detergent for the past 2 years. I originally found this recipe on the internet and have since tweeked it a bit. Here's my recipe.

    What you will need:
    1 large stock pot
    1 bar Phels-Naptha Soap
    4-1/2 gallons water
    2 cups Borax
2 cups Super Laundry Soda (not baking soda)
2 cups Oxi-Clean (powdered or liquid)
1 cup clear liquid hand soap (purchase a large bottle of at Family Dollar or Dollar tree)
30 drops Essential Oil (optional - any scent - I like Lavendar)
1 five gallon bucket - with a lid
    An Immersion blender

    1. Bring 1-1/2 gallons of water to a boil. Lower heat to a simmering boiling.
    2. Shred bar of Phels-Naptha soap.
    3. Add shredded soap in small batches to boiling water, whisking until dissolved completely - repeating until gone.
    4. Remove from heat. Add in Borax, Laundry Soda & Oxi-Clean. Mix until well dissolved.
    5. Pour into 5 gallon bucket.
    6. Add liquid soap & essentail oils
    7. Mix together until well blended.
    8. Add in 3 gallons cold water.
    9. Mix again.
    10. Put lid on bucket and set aside for 24 hours.

The next day, the mixture will have sepatated some and the top will look like a gooey mess. This is where I use my immersion blender to mix it back up again - takes about 5 minutes. It usually stays mixed after this - although you may have to do a little mixing here and there.

Use 1 cup per large load of laundry or 1-1/2 cups for heavier soiled items. You can even use this as a pretreater.

Hope this works for you too.
