A Gaming Chair for Work from Home? - 4 views

As of this Monday, I and most of my co-workers will remain at home and work from there for the foreseeable future.

From the corporate point of view, this is not that much a problem (at least for me). Sure, I will miss the direct exchange with my co-workers, but as a project/bid manager I can do pretty much all of my work remotely, and out company has long operated under the assumption that most people will have to do so from time to time. I have both a work notebook and a VPN connection.

The actual problem is... that my apartment isn't quite set up for working from home yet, and so far I've been worked from the couch - which is hardly ideal. My sole desk is fully occupied with my desktop PC. This is about to change - I have ordered a new desk with more space which should arrive later this week, a second screen, as well as some other gear that should help with my setup. While the expenses will hurt a bit, they ought to be tax-deductible and it's not as if I will be going on my planned bicycle trip this May anyway.... :-\

What I haven't ordered yet is a new chair. My current chair, which like most of my other stuff was bought at a time when I had to be far more frugal, is serviceable as a swivel chair - but ergonomic, it is not. And now that I will likely spend three times as much time on the same chair in the coming months, this will not do - I need a replacement.

Someone on Facebook recommended a gaming chair such as a DXRacer. I am open to this line of thought. However, some of these chairs include an "USB massage module" as an upgrade. Is this actually a useful feature, or a pointless toy?

What are your thoughts? Do you have any recommendations for my situation?
