Research on the coordination of a marine green fuel supply chain considering a cost-sha... - 0 views

  •
The marine green fuel supply chain is a crucial component in the development of green ports. Focusing on the issue of cooperative contracts between the port and green marine fuel supplier within the marine green fuel supply chain, first, a two-echelon marine green fuel supply chain optimization model consisting of a green marine fuel supplier and a port was constructed. Second, the changes in profits and decisions of a green marine fuel supplier and a port were compared under four scenarios: no contract, cost-sharing contract, revenue-sharing contract, and combined revenue-sharing + cost-sharing contract. Finally, the propositions were validated using numerical simulation methods. The research findings show that, in terms of revenue, the combined profits of a port and green marine fuel supplier under the combined revenue-sharing + cost-sharing contract exceeded those under the revenue-sharing contract alone. Regarding the sales price of marine green fuel and bunkering service quality, these factors peaked under the cost-sharing contract and were at their lowest under the revenue-sharing contract. An increase in the port's investment proportion in marine green fuel bunkering service quality led to decreases in the bunkering volume, sales price, wholesale price, and bunkering service quality of marine green fuel under both the cost-sharing contract and the revenue-sharing + cost-sharing contract. Additionally, the higher proportion of revenue shared by the port with the green marine fuel supplier resulted in lower sales price, wholesale price, and bunkering service quality of green marine fuel under both the revenue-sharing contract and revenue-sharing + cost-sharing contract.

#coronavirus - Rapid Assessment of Seabed Habitats Around PITCAIRN Island in Aid of Act... - 0 views

  •
The global COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 has forced small island states to make rapid changes to the way they manage their marine estates following changes in global shipping practices and access which are essential for the supply of food items and island's infrastructure. Following the closure of the border of neighboring French Polynesia, changes had to be made to the PITCAIRN Islands' sole supply vessel route, which resulted in the vessel requiring to set anchor on arrival at the island to conserve fuel. Considering this change and to ensure the continued protection of vulnerable coral habitats the local government has had to make swift decisions to identify anchoring zones that minimize seabed disturbance. Data collected in January 2020, just prior to the pandemic, were assessed using a rapid assessment method and combined with earth observation data to create the first shallow water (s pristine, marine habitats during these unprecedented times.

Analysis of influencing factors and prediction of China's Containerized Freight Index -... - 0 views

  •
China, as a major maritime nation, the China Containerized Freight Index (CCFI) serves as an objective reflection of the Chinese shipping market and an important indicator for understanding China's shipping industry globally. The shipping market is a complex ecosystem influenced by various factors, including vessel supply and demand, cargo supply and demand relationships and prices, fuel prices, and competition from substitute and complementary markets. To analyze and study the state of the Chinese shipping market, we selected the CCFI as an indicator and collected data on six factors that may affect the overall shipping market. These factors include "the China Coastal Bulk Freight Index(CCBFI)", "the Baltic Dry Index(BDI)", "the Yangtze River Container Freight Index", "Global: Aluminum (minimum purity of 99.5%, London Metal Exchange (LME) spot price): UK landed price", "Major Ports: Container Throughput", and "Coal Price: US Central Appalachia: Coal Spot Price Index". Then, we constructed an analyticaland predictive framework using Deep Neural Network (DNN), CatBoost regression model, and robust regression model to study the CCFI. Based on the R2 results of the three models, it is evident that DNN provides the best analytical and predictive performance for the CCFI, accurately forecasting its changes. Additionally, the robust regression model indicates that "Global: Aluminum (minimum purity of 99.5%, LME spot price): UK landed price" has the greatest impact on the CCFI. Finally, from a business perspective, we provide some suggestions for China's container shipping industry.

With the worldwide spread of the global Coronavirus (COVID-19), the shipping industry has played an essential and irreplaceable role in combating the effects of the pandemic, promoting a trade-led economic recovery and maintaining the stability of industrial supply chains. The North Bund Forum advocated jointly promoting the continuous innovation and wide application of green low-carbon technologies and effectively implementing the reduction strategies of global greenhouse gas emission, thereby contributing to the creation of a safe, smooth and green global supply chain. With the epidemic under control worldwide, the international shipping industry has also ushered in a new development cycle and growth opportunities, which brings new strategic opportunities for the development of Shanghai International Shipping Center. Shanghai will accelerate the building of the world's first-class shipping center characterized as convenient and efficient, fully functional, open and integrated, green and intelligent. The forum is intended as a platform for exchanging ideas on major issues in global shipping, for incubating governance rules and norms of the international shipping industry, for releasing the latest policies and regulations in China and the world, and for showcasing the Shanghai International Shipping Center.

China's shipping market supervision system under theRCEP: Influence, challenges and cou... - 0 views

  •
The entry into force of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the world's largest free trade agreement, has injected new vitality into multilateralism and free trade, against a background of global economic and political instability. Its core concept is to liberalize and facilitate trade. Regulation of the shipping market warrants attention. Under the RCEP, the international shipping industry is characterized by a digital development trend in shipping supervision, continuous upgrading of shipping management and supervision capabilities, and more open and transparent shipping market supervision. However, in the process of implementing new rules for shipping market supervision, there are still some challenges, such as logistics risks and loopholes in shipping supply chains, insufficient coordination of shipping supervision among RCEP member countries, and an imperfect legal and regulatory system. This paper therefore suggests that under the RCEP, China should strengthen the anti-risk ability of shipping supply chains, promote coordinated supervision among member countries, strengthen environmental protection, and promote the coordination of digital supervision.

Review of Maritime Transport 2024 - UNCTAD - 0 views

  •
Global maritime trade grew by 2.4% in 2023, recovering from a 2022 contraction, but the recovery remains fragile. Key chokepoints like the Suez and Panama Canals are increasingly vulnerable to geopolitical tensions, conflicts and climate change. These disruptions are extending shipping routes, straining supply chains and raising costs, with profound impacts on food security, energy supplies and the global economy, as over 80% of world trade volume is carried by sea. Vulnerable economies, especially small island developing States and least developed countries, are hit hardest by rising shipping costs from rerouted vessels. The Review of Maritime Transport 2024 highlights these challenges, calling for urgent action to strengthen industry resilience, accelerate decarbonization and support vulnerable economies. It underscores the need for new infrastructure that is sustainable and resilient, a faster transition to low-carbon shipping and a crackdown on fraudulent ship registrations to safeguard global trade.

Study: 90-Day Tariff Break Risks Major Shipping Disruption - CSH - 0 views

  •
    - A newly developed model provides first insights into the underestimated consequences of the 90-day tariff pause and the previous tariff shock in the US-China trade war - Rebound effect looming: recovery could destabilize the global ocean freight traffic more than the previous tariff shock - Container traffic in US ports is expected to increase by up to 150 percent, depending on when the rebound occurs: without countermeasures, supply problems will be similar to those experienced during the Covid-19 pandemic - Tariff shock caused the biggest disruptions on US-China shipping route since the Covid-19 pandemic: around 10 percent were "blank sailings," according to recent data Around 90 percent of global trade takes place by sea, so disruptions have a correspondingly large impact on global supply chains

Navigating net-zero: Biofuels promise cleaner shipping, but supply is limited - RYSTAD ... - 0 views

  •
The shipping industry's target of net-zero carbon emissions has boosted demand for biofuels, which are compatible with existing ship engines and therefore can be adopted relatively easily. However, Rystad Energy analysis shows that the capacity to produce biofuels-such as biodiesel and bio-liquefied natural gas (bio-LNG)-is not keeping up. Unconstrained biodiesel demand exceeds total supply and the outlook for bio-LNG is equally restricted, in both allocation and production.
