On the Zimmer Twins site students can create a story from scratch or complete one of the "cliff hanger" story starters. Students do not need to have any drawing skills in order to create a story as all elements are added to the video through a simple drag and drop interface. Students select settings, characters, character actions, emotions, and text styles then drag those elements into the storyboard. You can find facts through searching by date or by simply clicking placemarks on the map. Applications for Education I know some teachers like to include a little "trivia for the day" element in their classrooms. One Day In is one way to provide students with a little geographic context for those bits of trivia. One thing to note about One Day In is that the content is crowd-sourced so use your best judgment in determining the validity of all information on the site.

a nice map creation tool that allows you to quickly draw, type, and insert icons on a Google Map. Quikmaps is similar to Scribble Maps which I reviewed a couple of weeks ago. Quikmaps does offer one extra tool that Scribble Maps does not and that is the option to select from a huge gallery of icons to use on your map. Placing these icons is a simple matter of dragging and dropping elements. As you will see in the map I've embedded below, I placed a camera icon on Yellowstone National Park and wrote above it, "this is a good place to take pictures."

Take a Virtual Tour of the MLK Memorial The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial officially opened to the public on August 22. The memorial is the first on the National Mall that honors an African American and the first that honors a person who did not serve as president. The memorial is an engaging landscape experience tied to other landscapes and monuments, not a single object or memorial dominating the site. The composition of the memorial utilizes landscape elements to powerfully convey four fundamental and recurring themes throughout Dr. King's message: justice, democracy, hope and love. The memorial has its own Web site that includes a "virtual tour."
