The CATalyst Council, a nonprofit coalition that promotes cat welfare issues, has partnered with the American Humane Association s long-standing Adopt-A-Cat month initiative to support shelter adoptions for cats in June. Over 5,000 cats are euthanized daily in shelters across the U.S.

On an average day, 228 cats are euthanized in animal shelters -- each hour! That's four per minute. The good news is, the number of dogs put down at shelters is less than half that number. While cats are America's most popular pet, they sometimes pay a price which seems wrong.
