El pasado domingo, sin ir más lejos, estuvimos en La Laguna, probando nuestra aplicación de App Aventura para esa ciudad y me sorprendió la cantidad de establecimientos y edificios culturales que contaban con ellos. Justo ahora que comienzan a ser habituales, comienzan a ser cuestionados por todas partes.

Augmented reality (AR) is a live, direct or indirect, view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. Augmented reality has many applications, and many areas can benefit from the usage of AR technology.

While our top priority on AR Week on Pocket-lint was to speak to our five leading experts in the field of augment reality to find out what's going on at the cutting edge, we couldn't but help ask them to become part soothsayer as well.

The problem with augmented reality is its perception as digital gimmickry: a technology in search of a useful application that's often hijacked for novelty purposes. AR can make cartoon monsters jump out of crisp packets or make tweets float in the air above the place they were posted from, but there's little evidence that people enjoy this half as much as brands looking for an easy PR win, or AR technologists.
