Great Moments in EdTech History | Ideas and Thoughts - 3 views

  • journey into educational technology and share a few instances of “aha moments” that I think many can relate to
    • L Butler

Read the blog post and see what you agree with. The dates might change, but what is powerful and transformative remains the same.
  • The beginning of cheap failure.
    • L Butler

Great concept = cheap failure. We have the opportunity for almost everything we create to be a work in progress. You can always learn and build upon your initial attempts. This should give people more freedom to try without the feeling of absolute and unrecoverable failure.
    • Ryan Donnelly

Not just cheap failure but also instant failure, which is important to our students as well. We talk about rapid prototyping in the program and some in my classroom, which I think is an important note about this technology and an important concept for our students to grasp/be able to deal with. It's a vehicle for learning.
    • L Butler

'instant failure' - great phrase. It is important that they can make mistakes in a safe environment and have the guidance to learn from the mistakes.
    • Matthew Rogers

I guess my question is why would be considered a cheap failure, constant better/cheaper alternatives, integration in today's technology?
  • I did ask a few folks on twitter about their great moment in edtech history.

What would be on your list? Make sure your comments are not private, but visible to the LTMS600 group.
    • Ryan Donnelly

I think my list, off the top of my head, would be Google Docs, Twitter, Cloud Servers/Saving, and Mobile Devices.

And I forgot the first time around, the almighty text message. Who could forget the text message?
    • Charles Black

My list would be Facebook, Twitter, Google Docs, and Mobile Devices/Text messages.
  • I believe it was 640 x 480 resolution.

Funny. I think I still have one in my cabinet at school. Amazing how far digital photography has come in a short time.

Learn It In 5 - Students demo wiki and Diigo use in classroom - 5 views

  •
Great resource for teaching students how to use the tools. Students would rather watch a video instead of listen to the teacher talk, and why not watch a video created by another student?
  •
WOW! You could get lost in this site rather quickly. I'm often looking for "activating strategies" and usually discoverystreaming is my "go to" source for video clips. Now this site will be another resource for me to use!
  •
Agree with Rich why not use other students to explain how to use the tool. I only think of the endless possibilities you could use to collaborate on different readings or assignments using the tool.

Copyright Alliance Education Foundation - 2 views

  • Educators' Workshop The material in this guide will help librarians and media specialists in their efforts to inform other educators about copyright. It includes a quiz, tips on designing a workshop, and a chart of available classroom materials. Educators' Guide This comprehensive 13-page guide is designed for teachers of all grades and subject areas and includes: an overview of copyright, FAQ section, glossary and standards charts for all the classroom curricula available on this web site.
  •
"The issues surrounding copyright have never been more visible. But the classroom presents its own copyright-related challenges, for students and teachers alike. How is an educator to know what the rules are? How do those rules apply in the classroom? And how can we make sure that students know the rules as well?"

Set up interactive slideshows with your photos and their music. Embed the result. Allow (moderated?) comments, too. VERY nice!

I like PhotoPeach and have used it for some of the slideshows I have posted on my school website. There is a limit to the photos you can post on the free site. Thanks for sharing.

ShowMeWhatsWrong.com - 2 views

Now THIS is a VERY cool idea. Send someone a link. They click the link and open an app that allows them to record their screen. When they finish they click stop and it gets uploaded to the web and an email is sent to you with a link to a playback page. Watch it there or download it. Now folks can show you exactly what they're doing "wrong."
