I learned a “Save the Last Word” (SLW) protocol. SLW asks readers to first
copy down a passage from the given text which resonated with them for some
reason. With a passage copied, students (and teacher!) spend time writing about
how and why they choose the quoted passage. The key component of SLW is
sharing.
