Think Language - 0 views

thinkLanguage is an at-home language immersion, designed to increase language fluency while teaching you about life and culture in other countries. Join us as we explore the wonders of the Spanish, French and Italian languages and cultures. You can also buy school subscriptions. It is good because it has a glossary of the content language to the side of each article. At the end of the magazine it covers a grammar concept and also has a 'listen and repeat' section', which I haven't figured out how to use yet. Down load magazine into iBooks to keep. I like it.

There is no need to register, just click the "create" button at the top of the page and choose an avatar. You can also customise the avatar appearance if desired, but the most interesting aspect is that if you type any text into the text-to-speech box, and then hit the "play" button, you will hear your sentence as if it were produced by a native speaker of the language you have selected (including French, English, Greek, Indonesian, and Italian). Obviously, the typical prosodic features (intonation patterns, etc.) we use in naturalistic conversations are missing, which is a downside. But for basic pronunciation, it is an excellent tool. Some examples of how Voki can be used for teaching are available in the lesson plans shared by other teachers.
