This is a nice article. Good to see some unity from those of different religious denominations.

It's interesting to see that the intervention of the U.S in Iraq was dormant until ISIS's attempt to advance into Kurdish borders. In this article, Coll blatantly suggests that Obama's main reason for swooping in on ISIS is simply for the geo political and economic interests of the U.S rather than humanitarian. Over the years, Kurdistan has generated interest globally for its abundant oil reserve, attracting many foreign investors. ISIS shares many characteristics with other conflicts around the world, such as in other parts of the Middle East (e.g Syria, Palestine) , Africa , Ukraine etc. The article mentions that the fight for resources between extremely polarising groups within the countries, namely energy products such as oil and gas are a factor (and possibly at the heart) of these conflicts, as the countries rely on their export to generate revenue.

In the last few paragraphs, journalist Waleed Aly (you might've seen him on Channel 10's The Project), argues that heavy media coverage on ISIS will benefit the organization. It will cause hysteria in the general public, provoke western governments to wage all-out war, giving ISIS another reason to preach hate against America, indoctrinate their young, and the cycle of violence continues. ISIS's media presence may also be an attempt to get their message out to new potential supporters in foreign countries.

There are a lot of opinionated voices here. Not the best place if I wanted to look for facts and raw data, but a good place to soak in what the public response is to this ISIS CRISIS.

Hard to find raw and objective information here because a lot of the posts are very emotionally charged. But it is a good resource to gauge the public opinion.

This man has a twitter account where he posts photos of decapitated heads and captions "humorist" remarks. The question is "what stand is Australia willing to take to prevent terrorist's living on our shores?"
