The Digital Public Library of America is a huge collection of digitized artifacts and exhibits from museums and libraries across the United States. Through the DPLA you can find documents, books, images, audio recordings, and video clips. The DPLA is a new resource and only some of the artifacts are arranged into exhibits at this point. You can look for artifacts by location, time, or keyword search. Clicking on an artifact will open information about where it is housed and when it was created.

Comics in Education is a website run by Dr. Glen Downey for the purpose of sharing activities and ideas for using comics and graphic novels in literacy education. Head to the classroom section of the site to find five literacy skills development activities that can be completed online or offline. Those activities include wordless narratives, graphic poetry, cave art, visual note-taking, and symbolic language in words and images. In the classroom section you will also find curriculum connections and explanations of the rationale for using comics with all students.

Connect with other classrooms for reading activities

The online exhibitions in the Google Cultural Institute feature images, videos, audio, and text about significant historical and cultural people, places, and events. Some of the exhibitions like the Eiffel Tower Exhibition incorporate the use of Google Maps Street View imagery too.
