Either take your own or edit someone else's song- just be sure to give credit where credit is due. Edit, experiment, upload to soundcloud and share the link with the group. Beg, Borrow but don't Steal...

Record the song either using a microphone and the computer or an analog/digital recording device and upload the music to the computer

A good microphone is not required to get a start. You can even use an old tape recorder and plug the output (headphone jack) into the microphone jack on the computer.
