The Open Graph protocol enables any web page to become a rich object in a social graph. For instance, this is used on Facebook to enable any web page to have the same functionality as a Facebook Page. While many different technologies and schemas exist and could be combined together, there isn't a single technology which provides enough information to richly represent any web page within the social graph. The Open Graph protocol builds on these existing technologies and gives developers one thing to implement. Developer simplicity is a key goal of the Open Graph protocol which has informed many of the technical design decisions.

J'ai regardé vité fait : ça m'a tout l'air d'être du grand n'importe quoi. Ils ont beau citer des sources d'inspiration honorables (Dublin Core, RDFa), on sent qu'ils n'en ont tiré aucune leçon, et font des erreurs de conception grossière qui ne peuvent pas passer à l'échelle du web. UPDATE: Bon, en fait j'avais lu un peu vite, c'est moins pire que ce que j'avais cru. En fait, ils ont pas mal discuté avec des gens du W3C; on sent un compromis entre l'adoption des standard et la volonté de rester simple...

Facebook pousse à l'adoption de l'Open Graph Protocol (http://opengraphprotocol.org/) pour cartographier le web social. L'OGP s'appuie sur les votes des visiteurs « j'aime/j'aime pas » pour récolter les info et faire des liens sémantiques entre les objets et acteurs.
