Through book talks by the library teacher, students will learn and discuss what makes a person famous. The students will find and become familiar with the biography section of the library. A culminating activity called "Bio Stew" will help the students internalize the organization of different biographies. The teacher will be wearing a white chefs hat, an apron, and holding a wooden spoon as the students enter the library. There will be many questions asked by the students as they enter the library. "Sarah Josepha Hale was born on October 24th, 1788 in Newport, New Hampshire to Revolutionary War Captain Gordon Buell and Martha Whittlesay Buell. Well educated in the classics, Sarah continued her private studies after her marriage in 1813 to David Hale, a lawyer and Freemason. Sarah was widowed in 1822 with five children to support, four under the age of seven. After a brief stint with a millinery shop, she published her first book of poems, The Genius of Oblivion, with David Hale's Freemason lodge paying for the publication. Her career was firmly established with her first novel, Northwood, released in 1827. That same year, she began her most remembered literary position - that of editress."

YALSA's six literary awards honor the best books for teens each year with its Alex, Edwards, Morris, Nonfiction, Odyssey, and Printz awards. In addition, YALSA publishes selected booklists each year, which offer recommended titles for both the avid and reluctant teen reader. Both the awards and booklists highlight great books for teens. Parents and caregiverss can use these lists to find good books for their teens and librarians and educators may find them useful for collection development.
