Teenangels: the award-winning teen cybersafety expert group. - 0 views

  •
"Teenangels are a group of thirteen to eighteen year old volunteers that have been specially trained in all aspects of online safety, privacy and security. After completion of the required training, the Teenangels run unique programs in schools to spread the word about responsible and safe surfing to other teens and younger kids, parents, and teachers. They write columns for Web sites and become expert public speakers and researchers. They work with companies like Disney, Microsoft and AOL and are trained by law enforcement agencies; their tuition includes experience in making presentations to groups of students in schools and/or at community events. Teenangels have even been to the House of Representatives in Washington D.C., for the WiredKids Summit, where they presented their research to a powerful and influential audience. At the urging of our Teenangel volunteers, a special group of volunteers will be able to continue as Teenangels after they become eighteen years old and a new group of Tweenangels has been formed for those between seven and twelve years of age. "Today's teens have a knowledge of the Internet that often surpasses that of their parents. Because so many teens are Internet savvy, it is imperative that they also have an understanding of the dangers that exist online and how to deal with them. Watch teens share their own "Real-Life Stories" about issues affecting them on the Internet such as cyberbullying, online enticement, and giving out too much personal information. "

"Help protect your kids from cyberbullying Bullies are notorious for tormenting their victims face to face-at school, on the playground, in sports. But now, cyberbullying (or online bullying) opens the door to 24-hour harassment through computers, cell phones, gaming consoles, or other Internet-enabled means."

"The most important thing to remember is that when you're online in any kind of a public forum, anyone can read what you post. You should also remember that people you first "meet" online may not be who they seem to be. "
