Synopsis: The lesson plan is based on Hispanic artists. Its purpose is to introduce important artists to students so they may become familiar with artists, their works, and their roles in society. Three artists are highlighted in this lesson, but you can easily incorporate other artists. Plus, this lesson can continue throughout the course with students maintaining notebooks (either in hard form or on the computer) of the artists they study. The lesson is intended for Level II Spanish, but may be adapted for higher levels as well. Similarly, it may be modified for artists from different languages and cultures.

Through book talks by the library teacher, students will learn and discuss what makes a person famous. The students will find and become familiar with the biography section of the library. A culminating activity called "Bio Stew" will help the students internalize the organization of different biographies. The teacher will be wearing a white chefs hat, an apron, and holding a wooden spoon as the students enter the library. There will be many questions asked by the students as they enter the library. This tool allows students to develop an outline of a person whose biography or autobiography they have just read; it can also be used before students write their own autobiography. Specific prompts ask students to describe a person's significance, background, and personality. The finished printout can be folded into a fun cube shape that can be used for future reference. Tessellations - Escher and how to make your own - 0 views

  •
"Tessellations here mean designs featuring animals, birds, etc, which can fill the page, without gaps or over-lapping, to form a pattern that completely fills a space. It's the simplest kind of jigsaw puzzle: all the pieces look alike! You can see example tessellations in the top right corner of this website. The example changes each time you move to a new page. On these pages, you will find information about all aspects of tessellations, from their history and development to complete galleries of examples by school students, guest artists, the webmasters Seth and David, and of course M. C. Escher, the pioneer of the art. Also included are extensive workshops showing how to design and produce your own. All are accessible from the orange navigation bar or from the site index -see below. This site is a dedicated graphics site and not focused on the math. As M. C. Escher said, "Mathematicians go to the garden gate but they never venture through to appreciate the delights within." To use another metaphor, you're missing the fun if you use a microscope to enjoy a merry-go-round. If, as a result of your visit, you venture through that garden gate, please send us your designs for inclusion in the guest gallery. Link to us! To put a button that links to us on your website, if you're comfortable with HTML then just copy the text below, change the text to suit your feelings, and add it to your website."

"This online collection of selected electronic facsimiles seeks to share the marriage between book art and Shakespearean text with a wider audience. It also suggests the variety of responses by visual and book artists to the stimulus of Shakespeare's words. This online collection, originally published in venues as disparate as Philadelphia and Leipzig, includes images produced by an array of technologies available in the 19th and early 20th centuries. "
