Zim - manual - searching - 0 views

  • Search Query Syntax
  • By default
  • looks for pages that contain all of these words in either in the page name or in the page contents
  • ...5 more annotations...
  • For multiple words an implicit AND operator is assumed
  • The "Namespace" keyword limits the query to a certain sub-tree in the index.
  • To exclude all pages linking to ":Done" try:
  • NOT LinksTo: ":Done"
  • A complex example would be to find any pages in the ":Date" namespace that link to ":Planning". namespace: Date and linksto: Planning
    • LeisHowI

If you can insert all dates under a dates title, you can see all important dates. And backlinking shows you what. Events, Due or to start date perhaps.

Zim wiki - Checkboxes help - 0 views

  • Zim supports lists with checkboxes instead of bullets
  • 3 states: [ ] open, [*] checked as 'OK' and [x] checked as 'NOK'.
  • States can be toggle by clicking the checkbox with either the left mouse button or using the keyboard with <F12> and <shift><F12> respectively.
  • ...2 more annotations...
  • Lines that start with a checkbox behave like bullet list items, so you can indent by typing <tab> after the checkbox and when you press <enter> the new line will start with an empty checkbox automatically.
  • The Task List plugin regards checkboxes as TODO items and can give an overview of all open checkboxes in a notebook.

  • We use Dropbox to synchronise the files through the web without any problems. You might need to know your proxy server details. Remember to close ThinkingRock application when you leave one of your location otherwise the data file does not get synchronised to the web dropbox. Other users have recommended Syncplicity or FolderShare.

  • not perfect,
  • birdโ€™s-eye view of all top-level tasks in all projects at once.

GTD-Free compared to ThinkingRock - 1 views

  • TR is is more mature, and the team made even a commercial spin off (that is much more polished than the open source one).
  • TR (the Free version) has more features than GTD-Free, and it's more flexible in it's settings
  • feeling that those extra features were simply "glued" in TR, not added after a deep usability study, so for many features you always have to do a few more clicks(it shouldn't be so)
  • ...10 more annotations...
  • it has more documentation
  • TR is it's start-up time - it takes too much time for me.
  • TR having a little more complexity, or depth, or options,...depends on your viewpoint
  • TR has an option for delegating tasks via mailto.
  • GF has the same capability; it's just not as obvious that the user needs to decide if an item is actionable or not. On the plus side, I like how easy it is to add a reminder to any item in GF
  • downside to the TR processing screen is that the user must process thoughts in the order they were entered. There's no way to jump around in the list
  • Priorities in TR are user-definable, but they do not visually stand out like they do in GF
  • TR has a massive set of options for filtering and displaying columns; very handy when juggling tons of projects and tasks and delegations..
  • TR can import a plain text file as a list of thoughts, one line per thought. GF only seems to import XML files in GF format.
  • TR can export dated items to an iCal file, and I can see those items in my regular calendar, KOrganizer. GF doesn't. :(
