PsyBlog: How to Avoid Procrastination: Think Concrete - 2 views

  • Summary: how to get things doneHere's a summary of the main conclusions from all the studies discussed:To avoid procrastinating on a task, focus on its details and use self-imposed deadlines. To stick to a task, while actually carrying it out, now it is beneficial to keep the ultimate, abstract goal in mind. When evaluating progress on a hard task, when the chance of failure is high, stay focused on the details of the task.Once tasks are easier or the end is in sight, a more abstract, goal focus is once again the psychological approach to choose.

Improve your concentration: Acheiving focus amid distractions - 0 views

  •
This article offers some non-medicated ideas and techniques to help us focus and concentrate on what we are doing. I had to read this carefully, because I often found myself trapped in a mental battle preventing me from being able to concentrate on what I have to do. We know how much of a problem this is. Sometimes the problem is simply fatigue, nutrition (valid causes), but other times, it isn't. This article offers some practical ideas that people can do at home, who may not be able to attend a seminar, etc. This is for the person who just wants try some things that may be able to help them concentrate right away. For example, it provides advise on how to modify your environment, nutrition (water, breakfast, and exercise), avoid multitasking when you need to focus, switch between high and low attention tasks, breaks, walks, etc. Thought this article was very helpful because although our issues may be more complicated than what this article suggests, the information and recommendations in it I believe is conducive for a positive attitude, something I think is critical to being able to focus and concentrate.
