Chongqing Three Gorges Museum in Chongqing (Chongqing Museum) was founded in 1951 as Southwest Museum. It was renamed in June 1955 as Chongqing Museum, and again in September 2000 as China Three Gorges Museum in Chongqing (Chongqing Museum) with the permission of the General Office of the State Council of China.

There are several large and very interesting museums in Chongqing, all detailing the rich and cultural history of Chongqing, and China. Places like the Three Gorges Museum in Yuzhong District and the Chongqing Natural History museum in Beibei District are both very popular among locals and tourists alike. You can also find a museum dedicated to General Stillwell, a museum for Science and Technology, and the underwater museum Baiheliang in Fuling.

The Museum is located at the foot of Jinyun Mountain in Beibei, covering an area of 14.4 ha. with the floor area of 30,842-meter squares and the exhibition area of 16,252 meter squares. It contains six permanent exhibitions: Animal Planet, Dinosaur World, Landscape Metropolis, Earth Mystery, LifeStream, Ecological Homeland, which mainly display the evolution of the earth and life, biodiversity, as well as the natural history of Chongqing, mainly expound the relationships among natural resources, environment and human activities, advocating the harmony of human and nature and sustainable development.

It is a large popular science education venues for the public, which is modern, comprehensive, multi-functional. Chongqing science and technology museum is a basic popular science facility to implement the strategy of "rejuvenating chongqing through science and education" and improve citizens' scientific and cultural literacy.

Nearly 40,000 pieces of various cultural relics, including more than 60 national first-level cultural relics, are displayed in the exhibition of cultural relics. The cultural relics mainly include modern historical materials and objects such as the War of Resistance, war industry, folk customs, and the Red Age (a time in China before the Chinese Economic Reform).

The site was almost destroyed during the 1990s. Fortunately, Chongqing People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries worked with the Independence Hall of Korea to restore it, which was opened in 1995 as a museum. It is now a cultural relic protected by Chongqing Municipality.
