Three-quarters of AP and NWP teachers say that the internet  and digital search tools have had a "mostly positive" impact on their students' research habits, but 87% say these technologies are creating an "easily distracted generation with short attention spans" and 64% say today's digital technologies "do more to distract students than to help them academically."

The next wave of that impact won't come from iBooks 3 or the new version of iBooks Author, which are both nice, but relatively minor updates. If anything from Tuesday's event will help push digital textbook adoption forward, it's the hardware. Specifically, the iPad Mini. By offering a $329 tablet, Apple suddenly made iPad adoption notably more affordable for cash-strapped school districts. Apple also released the fourth generation 10-inch iPad, which should help drive down the price of the company's older devices as well. 

The Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) today released the third and final monograph from its three-part 2011 Compendium, titled "Small Size, Big Potential: Mobile Learning Devices in School." The monograph explores the growing use of mobile learning devices in schools and how such initiatives are positively impacting student achievement. In its examination, the monograph provides detailed examples from districts across the United States that are pioneering this innovative transformation of the 21st century classroom.   

This is the annual report from the Higher Education community about the 6 key technology trends impacting them. Naturally, this is also a view that K-12 should keep their eye on as it discusses expectations of today's graduates.
