      Your views! Having worked at GMR and interacted closely with the family, I tend to agree with Daniel Goleman.
  • Why does social intelligence emerge as the make-or-break leadership skill set? For one, leadership is the art of accomplishing goals through other people.
  • As I've written with my colleague Richard Boyatzis, technical skills and self-mastery alone allow you to be an outstanding individual contributor. But to lead, you need an additional interpersonal skill set: you've got to listen, communicate, persuade, collaborate.

    Hi Everyone,

    My name is Rajagopalan. You can address me as Raj. I am a IM 2001 passout. I am extremely grateful to Dr Prasad and NITIE for giving me this opportunity to contribute (actively) through this DIIGO initiative.

    Lets get started. You are one of the privileged few management students in India to get an opportunity to experience the power of this fascinating bookmarking and highlighting research tool called DIIGO. I encourage you to check out some videos about DIIGO on youtube to get a headstart.

    My Role
    I would be working with Dr Prasad to get the DIIGO initiative going for the Leadership Development Course. Following would be the objectives of this DIIGO Group -
    a) Knowledge Repository for the Leadership Development Course so that you can have access even after you pass out.
    b) Assignment submisssion and assessment

    Dr Prasad could choose to add any further objectives for this group as he may deem necessary. We could attempt to make a Case Study out of it as well for the benefit of the B-School fraternity.

Our aim is to have all the classmates on the Leadership DIIGO group by 25th October, 2011. As students, DIIGO also gives you the privilege of opening an exclusive education account. Please take it up.


    Call to Students
    I request your CLASS to nominate two students who would work with me in setting up this DIIGO initiative. These students should ideally be considering "management consulting" as a career. DIIGO would be a HUGE advantage for a young professional looking to make a career in management consulting. I look forward to some excitable junta to join me in this pioneering DIIGO initiative at a B-School in India.

  • No one is a pure Transcendent or a pure Opportunist. Rather, we are all a portfolio of the different types with one type being dominant. Even the Dalai Lama has to deal with the pull of his emotions when he makes decisions. And Madoff did his best to shield his wife and sons when he confessed his grand scheme to the FB

  • There is no better example of what it really takes to be a Transcendent than the first black president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela. He was able to soar above hatred for his white jailers, the political tug of the African National Congress, the pull of his racial and tribal group, and the rejection by the Afrikaners to build a South Africa for all South Africans. Now in his 90s, he is perhaps the world's greatest living leader.

    Asking the question, whom do you serve? is a powerful vector on which to build a useful typology of leadership. Visiting professor Modesto Maidique offers a six-level Purpose-Driven Model of Leadership ranging from Sociopath to Transcendent. Key concepts include: The most telling question to ask a leader is, whom do you serve? Yourself? Your group? Society? The answer to this question often reveals more about leaders than knowing their personality traits, level of achievement, or whether they were "transformational" or "transactional" leaders. The six levels of leadership are Sociopath, Opportunist, Chameleon, Achiever, Builder, and Transcendent.

      Nihar, overall good content. A few suggestions - a) Presentation could have been brief (max 5-6 slides) b) Look & Feel could be professional. (check out 24point0.com) On Gandhi, another recommended reading "The Shadow of the Great Game: The Untold Story of India's Partition" which captures how Jinnah, British, Congress and Gandhi's followers felt about Gandhi's leadership. Good Luck
