For more than 10 years, and with $3.0 million in awarded grants, ING Unsung Heroes has proven to be an A+ program with educators. The program's "alumni" have inspired success in the classroom and impacted countless numbers of students. Each year, 100 educators are selected to receive $2,000 to help fund their innovative class projects. Three of those are chosen to receive the top awards of an additional $5,000, $10,000 and $25,000. This looks like a great program. The winners from last year are doing some pretty incredible things. I'm sure it is quite competitive. I think a combination of community service with academic involvement would be a potential winner here. The question is...do we have any ideas ambitious enough to be noticed? Maybe approach Mr. James about developing more multimedia into his student's oral history report where the interview individuals from the community?

Government grants are issued to carry out a public purpose and need not be payout back. Real estate grants are being awarded to those who are committed to offer affordable housing and jobs to low income communities.

Apply for the National Trails Fund grant for trail-related non-profit organizations. Awards of $500-5000. Probably need to work in partnership with a local organization but there could be a project here!

A partnership between Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. and the National Science Teachers Association, the Toyota TAPESTRY Grants for Science Teachers program offers grants to K-12 science teachers for innovative projects that enhance science education in the school and/or school district. Fifty large grants and a minimum of 20 mini-grants, totaling $550,000 in all, will be awarded this year. To apply for funding, qualified teachers must write a Toyota TAPESTRY proposal according to the proposal requirements. The deadline for the completion of the online application is 11:59 p.m., Eastern Standard Time, Monday, January 18, 2010. Recipients of Toyota TAPESTRY grants will be notified by March 4, 2010. Non-recipients will be notified by May 31, 2010.
