Neighborhood gets high-tech outreach - 2 views

An example of GIS in real life! Danielson Castillo is using geographic information system (GIS) mapping to layer several sets of data on a computerized map. The depth and breadth of the mapping project, completed last month, is unheard of on a community level in Minnesota. The project was funded with a $20,000 grant from the McKnight Foundation, but Danielson Castillo and Matson believe it's a tool that will become increasingly common and affordable for community organizations. Danielson Castillo already has given demonstrations of his GIS map to a number of community organizers.

How can we spread awareness of energy consumption? - 1 views

  •
This article suggests that once people are aware of the amount of energy they actually consume, they are more likely to reduce their usage by up to 30%. It goes on to suggest an energy tracker as an app on a smart phone or something of the like. It's a cool idea trying to use technology to promote awareness. I'm not sure if this is promoting Sony technology or if this is a genuine proposal. hmm

Screens would be really amazing! I feel like it would have an impact on energy use.

Conflict Minerals - 0 views

  •
I think it would be great to start a campaign for our campus to go conflict free. This would spread awareness about the funding of war in DRCongo through large electronic compainies' purchasing of conflict minerals. The purchasing of tin, tungsten, tantalum, and gold is funding this. These minerals can all be found elsewhere.

Jamie Oliver Food Revolution Petition - 0 views

  •
Another interesting food topic. Sign the petition to say "I support the Food Revolution. America's kids need better food at school and better health prospects. We need to keep cooking skills alive." Jamie hopes to bring this to the White House and show Michelle Obama how much support is behind the Food Revolution.

Chipotle "Dressed To Kill" campaign - 1 views

  •
This Halloween, instead of giving free burritos to those dressed as a burrito, Chipotle is selling $2 burritos to those dressed as a "horrifying processed food" such as the models on the website as chicken nuggets and dipping sauce. This is interesting because a large corporation like Chipotle is speaking out against processed food.
