Elizabeth Smart abductor sentenced to life in prison - CNN.com - 0 views

  • Brian David Mitchell, the homeless street preacher who abducted, raped and kept a 14-year-old Elizabeth Smart captive for nine months, was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday.
    • Davonta Covington

If this guy is homeless where can he possibly hold her? I dont think that is correct because if he is homeless he cant hide her in a box for about six months. He should be thrown in jail but i dont think giving him life in prision will do anything. I mean he commited a crime but he is homeless. This guy could be insane.
  • Mitchell's heinous conduct, the evidence of his propensity to reoffend mandated such a sentence," Christensen said.
    • Davonta Covington

No matter what happens he should be thrown in jail. He raped this girl and held her from her life and the fact that he is homeless makes everything worse.
  • She was forced to wear robes and a veil in public and was not permitted to speak to other people. She said she feared Mitchell would act on his threats to kill her and her family if she did.
    • Davonta Covington

If he is saying all these things to her and making her do all of these crazy thing, then this guy must be insane or have fear of her leaving him because the girl was all he had. But this still doesnt give him the right to rape her and do what he wants her to do.

  • She noted that the sentencing also occurred on National Missing Children's Day. Her father, standing beside her, held up posters depicting several children who were recently abducted.
    • Davonta Covington

How can nobody recongize her when she is on the street? Even though she is covered you can still tell what your child looks like or maybe her friends could have saw her before.

Body found in Utah desert is male, not missing mother - CNN.com - 0 views

  • Human remains discovered in the Utah desert belong to a young male and are not a missing 28-year-old mother, authorities said, a grim discovery that fuels the mystery and opens a new case.
    • Davonta Covington

This is insane to find out. I think the person who has this man that was found, what can you tell her? You cant tell her in a nice way that her son was found in the desert just left to die.
  • An attorney found the bones in the area where his family owns ranch property.
    • Davonta Covington

I think this can be a little suspicous. This man found the bones by his house that is in the desert not to far from the family house that he owns. This man or family could have commited this crime. For all we know it could be him who did and just trying to play the roll of being the good guy.
  • Josh Powell says he last saw his wife on a cold December night in 2009 as he and his two young sons left to go camping in the Tooele County desert area. Powell's sister reported her as missing.
    • Davonta Covington

So he saw her before he went camping in the desert, the wife body was found in the desert and he reported her missing? I think he did this crime and just wanted to get away with it. Like how you going to leave your wife missing? But now she is dead for some reason. Just think about it and put 2 and 2 together and look at all the facts. The husband could have commited the murder.

Florida boy, 16, charged as adult in double slaying of British men - CNN.com - 0 views

  • A 16-year-old boy has been indicted as an adult on charges of murdering two British men in Sarasota, Florida, police said Wednesday.
    • Davonta Covington

16 year olds are doing things these days that shouldnt be done. Like what reason would he do this to grown men? I think people need to figure out what reason young kids are doing things that they shouldnt have no business doing. Like he is 16 years old he should be enjoying being 16 and not killing people. This has to have an effect on him because he is killing at the age of 16.
  • Tyson will be tried as an adult and, if convicted of first-degree murder, could receive life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, Hollaway said.
    • Davonta Covington

This young kid had to have a reason to why he has killed 2 men at the age of 16. I think these men could have been doing something to him to cause him to do this type of thing. I wanna know why this young man killed 2 grown men. People dont look into that factor of this case.
  • The teen suspect lives near the crime scene, a police report said, and he had been arrested earlier in April on a charge of aggravated assault with a handgun.
    • Davonta Covington

If he lives right around that area then there has to be a problem with the 2 men that are dead. Being 16 doesnt mean they want to kill them for no reason to me. Location is a big factor in this.
  • ...1 more annotation...
  • The two men were believed to be friends who recently graduated from college and were in Sarasota to celebrate.
    • Davonta Covington

So you mean to tell me he would kill his friends that he knows? No i dont think so, this really needs to get some other facts because no friends would murder each other. Just because he is 16 makes it more confusing to me.

Garridos plead guilty in Jaycee Dugard kidnapping - CNN.com - 0 views

  • Phillip and Nancy Garrido pleaded guilty Thursday to the kidnapping and sexual assault of Jaycee Dugard, whom they held captive from age 11 through 29, the El Dorado County, California, district attorney said.
    • Davonta Covington

These people are crazy for doing such things to children. If they didnt have kids of there own then why do this to another family with kids? This is the problem that happens now. People dont know what to do with them selves.
  • The married couple abducted Dugard when she was 11, and they held her in a hidden compound on their home's grounds in Antioch, California.
    • Davonta Covington

Where can these people hide her? This is why we need to watch over our children. You never know what can happen on any given day. Things like this shouldnt happen if people would watch over there kids.
  • "Additionally, were it not for Jaycee's strong cooperation with our office and the prosecution of the Garridos, we would not have been able to firmly stand by our position to take this case to jury trial. Jaycee's courage and willingness to confront her abductors in court directly led to the Defendants' plea and life sentences," Pierson added in his statement.
    • Davonta Covington

I think this was very brave of the girl to actually come and tell what happen. The time she was there was very long and she could have been brain washed and really scared of these people and didnt want to put these people away for the crime that they have committed.
  • ...1 more annotation...
  • She will be sentenced to the negotiated disposition of life in prison, Pierson said. She will receive a 25-years-to-life sentence under the "one strike" rape law, plus 11 years, which is the maximum possible sentence for the kidnapping charges based upon the sentencing laws in 1991, Pierson said.
    • Davonta Covington

This is not all she should get for this. I think she shouldnt get parole and serve all the time that she has in the sentence. Just because she held this young lady for her childhood. She didnt get the chance to grow up, meet people, see what the real world is about, do things that teenagers do, and actually become a women.

Wife of Miami Dolphins player charged with stabbing him - CNN.com - 0 views

  • The wife of Miami Dolphins star receiver Brandon Marshall has been charged with stabbing him in the abdomen with a kitchen knife during a domestic violence incident, according to a report from the Broward County, Florida, sheriff's office.
    • Davonta Covington

What was the reason she stabbed him? If it was over an arguement then what was the reason? I think you shouldnt stab anyone with a knife period. If this person is a lover of yours, im pretty sure you can work things out. You dont have to turn to violence.
  • His wife was released Saturday from the county's main jail in Fort Lauderdale after posting a $7,500 bond, according to Coleman-Wright and other authorities.
    • Davonta Covington

She just might come and stab him again. He doesnt have a restraining order on her, so she can get close to him and possibly kill him because she didnt do it the last time she stabbed him. Things like this are crazy. She should not be let not on bond.
  • His wife then told police that she stabbed her husband "out of self-defense," the report said.
    • Davonta Covington

What was the reason for the self defense? Was he abusive to her? Did he hit her first? Where was the knife when she stabbed him? If the knife was not in the same room with them or in her possession, then this can be accounted as attempted murder because she went to get the knife from a different place and stabbed him.

Duke lacrosse accuser charged with murder in boyfriend's stabbing - CNN.com - 0 views

  • A North Carolina woman who stirred national headlines when she accused three Duke University student-athletes of rape is now herself accused of murder, a county law enforcement official said Monday.
    • Davonta Covington

What was the reason for the crime that she committed? If justice wasnt serve to the people who raped her and she doesnt feel safe in the world because they are out there. She might have been afraid to live, knowing that they are on the streets she walks on. Maybe we need to find out her mental status and what mind set she was in before we say she is a very bad person.
  • n March 2006, Mangum claimed she was sexually assaulted by three players on the Duke lacrosse team -- annually one of the best collegiate squads in the n
    • Davonta Covington

If she was at a party and was stripping for people at a party? What do you think people will treat you like? I mean that is her risk of doing something like that is how people try to take advantage of you when your in that type of field. Not to mention that you're alone with a group of men.
  • Later that day, Mangum was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, police said. She was placed in the Durham County Jail without bond, where she remained Monday.
    • Davonta Covington

Why would she do something like that to a person you love? I dont think this is the right thing to do. He could have helped her with the problems that she was having.

77-year-old man charged in four slayings dating to 1977 - CNN.com - 0 views

  • A Reno, Nevada, man is charged with four counts of murder in the deaths of four northern California women dating back more than three decades, authorities said Tuesday.
    • Davonta Covington

How long would it take you to figure out he killed 4 women? If he killed four women back in 1977 then why come out and say he did it now? This is why we need to watch certain people and what they do. If it takes this long for a man to come out and say he killed four women back in 1977, what do you think he has been doing all the rest of the years it took him to even confess that he did these type of things to women.
  • Roggash's murder was considered unsolved until Naso was arrested in April 2010 by Nevada parole and probation authorities, Berberian said. During that arrest, police found items that implicated Naso "in multiple murders of young women," he said.
    • Davonta Covington

What was the reason he was arrested on probation? If he committed a simliar crime to get probation or parole, then he should have been on watch because things like this may have came up. But instead they wait this long to actually find out things that he has done.
  • "We're hoping that people who have missing relatives will take a look at this and maybe put a couple of the pieces together and get that information to us so we can follow up on it," he told reporters.
    • Davonta Covington

What difference does this make? Now if you want the families to know what happen to their child or relative then this would help. But if you want to convict this man of murdering these women then its to late. It was 3 decades ago, I dont think it would help if a 77 year old man was put in jail for something we couldnt even figure out in the first place.

Murder charge looms in Dominican Republic for Orioles pitcher - CNN.com - 0 views

  • Simon is suspected of shooting 25-year-old Michael Castillo to death and wounding Castillo's cousin in the northern coastal town of Puerto Plata during the early morning hours of New Year's Day.
    • Davonta Covington

Was this person drunk? Why would he randomly shoot someone? I think he was drunk an wasnt aware of his actions that he committed a crime that night.
  • Although Simon has reached a settlement with Castillo's family to drop wrongful death charges, prosecutor Victor Mueses, speaking on the phone from Santo Domingo, said that recent forensic investigation results give his office "enough to proceed" with unspecified murder charges.
    • Davonta Covington

Even though this is not in our country this man shouldnt be let off the hook for committing this crime. I think the people shouldnt cut him a deal because thats just showing that you can get away with anything in the DR and just pay off a family to go to a better life.
  • The Orioles have placed righthander Simon on their restricted list. When he was released from jail, the team's website said that "Simon is unlikely to pitch in 2011 due to off-the-field issues."
    • Davonta Covington

This is the right thing to do. I think he shouldnt be able to play baseball for the time he spent in jail. Meaning I think he should get more time in jail and not play baseball. Because if it happen in the US it would be a very different case and somebody wouldnt be playing baseball. So why give this man a brake just because he lives in a different country. Murder is still murder no matter where it happens.

Body of missing Ohio mother found in septic system - CNN.com - 0 views

  • The mother-in-law of a 25-year-old woman found dead in a septic system provided investigators with details where the corpse was located, police said Wednesday.
  • "It would appear that she was killed very quickly," Miller told reporters. He did not provide further details.
    • Davonta Covington

I think this man needs to be killed himself. It takes time to plan out where you want to put the body of a person that you want to kill and put the person away very quickly. People just dont think in there feet that fast to kill and put somebody away.
  • The mother of three was working as part of a cleaning crew at a local bank on March 22, police said. When she stepped outside, she was grabbed and forced into a white vehicle.
    • Davonta Covington

Who saw this? If people saw this why couldnt they chase this person to make sure this is ok? I think this is crazy how people can sit and watch and not do nothing about it.

Suspect in attempted bombing at MLK Day parade to be arraigned - CNN.com - 0 views

  • A suspect in the attempted bombing of a Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade in Washington state is expected to be arraigned on federal charges Wednesday.
    • Davonta Covington

Now what reason would you do this? I think this crime is pointless in doing. Just because you may not like MLK day or even MLK himself, you dont have to indanger people for a parade. This is a biological crime to me. Just because he wants to do it, is saying his parents could have an affect on him on why he doesnt like MLK or the celebration of MLK day.
  • A grand jury indicted Kevin William Harpham, 36, of Colville, Washington, on one count of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and one count of possessing an unregistered explosive device.
    • Davonta Covington

Where does he get all of the explosives to actually blow things up? This needs to be the question that people need to answer. I think we as people need to figure out how to stop things like this from happening. Why are people being given explosives to do such crimes?
  • "He'd been on our radar screen for some years," said Mark Potok, director of the Southern Poverty Law Center's Intelligence Project. "He wasn't a major character but we were aware of him."
    • Davonta Covington

If this is the case then why not watch him for the most part? If he was a danger to people around him, he should be put on major watch because you never know what he can do to people. An as a result, you can see he tried to blow a entire parade up. This is why people die a lot. We take to much caution with people and then they end up killing people or hurting people around them. You cant watch everyone but at least try to do something to prevent deaths.

NFL labor: Courts could tilt leverage in coming weeks - The Washington Post - 0 views

  • Sports leagues historically have struggled to defend themselves against various antitrust claims; the NFL players claim in their latest suit that owners have violated antitrust law through the lockout, the “Franchise Player” and “Transition Player” designations, and through the college draft. All of those, the players contend, restrict their ability to earn maximum pay for their skills.
    • Davonta Covington

I think this can be a major problem in the NFL because all the hall of fame players or soon to be, will lose out on the money that they deserve. So by cutting the salary of the owners and managers of the NFL is taking a lost also.
  • “This may be the most complex labor battle in American sport history,” said Robert Boland, who teaches antitrust and labor law at New York University. Both sides “are looking for an advantage that becomes a game changer.”
    • Davonta Covington

I would be looking for a better way to recieve my money also. I have gave my life and time to this organization and now they are talking about cutting my money short because of the certain problems is not going to fly with me. So I say, you either find a better way to get your money and make sure you get yous so you dont have to worry about other things when the time come.
  • Washington Redskins offensive lineman Artis Hicks said Saturday he’s “pretty sure things will get worked out in time for” offseason practices.
    • Davonta Covington

If things doesnt work out by that time, then what are players and coaches will do? Will they come out and keep doing there job or will they hold out until things are worked out? This is what i want to see when the time comes if a deal has not been made yet.

7 children die in Pennsylvania house fire - CNN.com - 0 views

  • The parents were outside the house at the time of the fire. They survived, as did another child, he said.
    • Davonta Covington

To me why would you leave 7 kids in the house unattended? This is the lack of parenting that parents have these days. No matter how old the age, if you are at your house and you want to leave I think you should take the kids with you. Dont leave your kids in the house by themselves. Especially when you live on an open farm.
  • "Everybody I've talked to here this morning has felt a lot of sympathy toward these people. It's a real shame the way things like that happen," he said.

    • Davonta Covington

Why didnt the dad go home and at least check on his famiy? Why sleep in a milk truck? The mother should have taken the kids with her to the barn so she can watch whats going on with them. You never know what is going to happen you leave your house.

Robert Kennedy's Killer Sirhan Sirhan Says He Was Brainwashed - ABC News - 0 views

  • A lawyer for Sirhan Sirhan, the confessed assassin of Robert F. Kennedy, plans to present new evidence at a parole board hearing suggesting that he did not act alone, was potentially brain washed and cannot remember anything about the 43-year-old shooting.
    • Davonta Covington

Truthly I think if it was 43 years ago and you cannot find the person that actually committed the crime with him, then why bring it up now? Its 43 years ago and the man does not remember actually who the other person was, what is the reason to find out now after 43 years? I just think its pointless that you try 43 years later then rather trying to find out when it actually happened.
  • There is no question he was hypno-programmed," lawyer William F. Pepper told ABCNews.com. "He was set up. He was used. He was manipulated."
    • Davonta Covington

Facts still remain the same. He committed a crime and assassinated the president of the U.S. I think if he was manipulated in doing the crime that shouldn't change anything as far as committing a murder to the president of the U.S.
    • Davonta Covington

Facts still remain the same. He committed a crime and assassinated the president of the U.S. I think if he was manipulated in doing the crime that shouldn't change anything as far as committing a murder to the president of the U.S
  • Pepper said he believes Sirhan was "hypno-programmed," essentially brainwashed to kill Kennedy and his memories were then erased.
    • Davonta Covington

Once again I dont think he should be given a chance to actually get another trial to say he was brain washed into killing Mr.Kennedy. For all we could possibly know, he could have been sitting in jail thinking of a way to get himself off because he is tired of being in there. People are crazy these days and will say or do anything to get out of something. I just think its absolutely crazy that it takes him 43 years to come out and say it was someone else that was with him but not only he says he was brain washed into committing the crime. I DONT BELIEVE HIM

Gay marriage: Obama administration won't defend part of marriage act - latimes.com - 0 views

  • The administration vows not to defend the law against two lawsuits brought by same-sex couples
    • Davonta Covington

Why cant you defend them? They are people just as people that have the opposite sex as a spouse. I think this is crazy because that hurts them also. They have feelings and things they like. I think they should be giving a fair trial just as people who arent gay
  • In his legal analysis, discrimination against gays "warrants heightened scrutiny," not general acceptance.
    • Davonta Covington

Why does it have to be all this? Is it because the people are gay? I think people dont think before they say things.
  • The lawsuit brought by the gay couples argued that they were entitled to the same benefits as other couples because they were legally married in their states.
    • Davonta Covington

So what about if they go to a different state? Why cant the gays get a fair trial in a different state. As I said before they are people as well. I dont know why this a issue for people. Just stop trying to avoid and face it that they are here and they are not going anywhere for a very long time. Well girls that is, (lesbians)

Coach slapped with kiddie porn charges - BostonHerald.com - 0 views

  • A record-setting North Andover wrestling coach with a high school hall of fame career was arraigned on child pornography charges yesterday after police said they uncovered more than 100 photos of young girls in his attic.
    • Davonta Covington

Why do people do this? I think this is one thing that people shouldnt do. Like why do you want to see underage kids naked? Its other things to do then to do that. Its also placces that can help you with problems like this.
  • Castricone, who lives in North Andover, has spent 38 years as a head high school wrestling coach. He is the all-time winningest coach in New England with 681 victories.
    • Davonta Covington

Why would you throw this away? Meaning like people for a long time has known you for winning wrestling matches in high school. Not the person who wants to look at child porn.
  • During a search of his house, cops reportedly seized eight printed images of child pornography, more than 100 images of young girls in underwear and revealing clothes, and 77 pages of females who appear to be unaware they are being photographed.

This is way to long to be trying to find a person or convict someone after 23 years. Also these people are not even certain that this person has committed this crime
  • "I want her to go to jail ... for what she did and what she did to my family," White-Heatley said of whoever abducted her niece. "She destroyed my family."
    • Davonta Covington

This is the right thing to do when it comes to justice. But now that you think about it, who knows where this lady have went? She could be somewhere nobody knows. To me you should be happy that you have your daughter back now and dont worry about the person who destroyed your family. Work on reconnecting with your daughter. Make up the time you have missed
  • "I just hope that the officials will be able to get her in their hands so we could just hear her side of the story now."
