One of the most fascinating things to come out of the current We Are 99%/Occupy Wall Street protests is the We Are 99% Tumblr.  At the site, people hold up signs that explain their current circumstances, and it tells the story of a whole range of Americans struggling in the Lesser Depression.  It is highly recommended. DATA The site features pictures of individuals holding their signs, and occasionally the tumblr reproduces the text of the signs themselves underneath the image as html text.  Sometimes the text under the image is blank, sometimes it is a different message, but often it is the sign itself. In order to get a slightly better empirical handle on this important tumblr, I created a script designed to read all of the pages and parse out the html text on the site.  It doesn't read the images (can anyone in the audience automate calls to an OCR?), just the html text.  After collecting all the text on all the pages, the code then goes through it to try to find interesting points. It's a fun exercise, pointing out things I wouldn't have seen otherwise.  For instance, I found this adorable little rascal, pictured below, mucking up the algorithm, as the first version of the code assumed all the ages would have two digits.  I found that he, and the sign his mom made for him as a confessional to her son, hit me a ton harder than any of the more direct signs of despair in this economy:

On July 11, 2016, Unified petition for inter partes review in IPR2016-01404 on claims 1, 2, 13-15, 33, 34, 39, 46 and 48 of patent 6,968,459, assigned to Intellectual Ventures II, LLC. The patent discusses restricting access to data storage devices, i.e., limiting data storage to read/write or read-only access privileges.

Data suggests an inter partes review (IPR) institution decision is a defining moment in underlying litigation. Unified examined all district court settlements involving patents subject of IPR. The data revealed parties have shifted toward earlier settlements, usually just before an expected institution decision. The movement to pre-institution settlement shows the direct effects of PTAB on District Court.

Unified Patents Inc. filed to terminate IPR2015-00874 based on a settlement with Hall Data Sync Technologies LLC. The settlement details are confidential.

On September 7, 2016, Unified Patents Inc. filed a petition for inter partes review against all claims of a patent owned and asserted by Digital Stream IP, LLC in the Eastern District of Texas. The challenged patent, 6,757,913, discusses the wireless transmission of digital data. A copy of the proceeding can be found below.

On July 22, 2016, Unified filed for inter partes review of all claims 1-16 of U.S. Patent 7,454,002, owned and asserted by Sportbrain Holdings, Inc. The subject matter relates to the devices providing data via the Internet, commonly known as the Internet of things. A copy of the petition is found below.
