100 Ways to Teach with Twitter - 5 views

  •
Includes examples of how instructors use Twitter for teaching.
  •
I am so amazed and intrigued by the many possibilities of twitter as a course supplement. I also like the web resources that were introduced in our readings. The Pro/Con.org site is interesting. This site offers some interesting talking points on social network usage. I look forward to investigating this information in greater detail.

I visited the Wisc-Online web site which is a digital library of Web-based learning resources called learning objects. Also I am currently trying to figure out this Diigo's Auto Blog Post. Apparently this will allow me to post bookmarks to my blog on a weekly basis.

Tom: Thanks for even more good resources to add to this gigantic resource book I am compiling.

I'd watch this, but I'm afraid I'd need to wash my eyes out with soap afterwards....

In the attendant article linked to this one, the professor gives two excellent ideas for use of Twitter in the classroom: 1. I could have my English 110 students do as he requested--track a word or a name. I would like them to expand their vocabulary, and a Twitter search would be preferable to the standard list of words. 2. In creating a sense of community, Twitter brought his students together in discussions that continued along similar veins as they had in class. In addition, the conversations gave him a glimpse into the workings of their minds. This type of short exchange would be like an MRI combined with a sound bite.

I am a George Herbert Mead fan. His research is of great interest to me. Students interested in social science will find Mead's works of interest.

A wiki that clearly allows tracing of every revision. This may work better than Moodle's wiki. Neet to play with this with others, though, to find out.
  •
Wow--fancy. These Wikis sure have gotten to be sophisticated since I first investigated them about 6 years ago. Do you use the one in Moodle, John?

Not sure how this works, since the edit tool locks up. I need to be able to determine after the fact who added what.

I think this is an interesting site for students to observe where there are active hate groups operating state by state. Why does Michigan have so many as compared to Wisconsin and Minnesota?

Could be useful to students to help with definitions - of course, they've hav to know how to spell to use it correctly. It also has some games and other activities that may engage the student.

Games Simulatiuons and Social Networks - 0 views

Many agree that games, simulations, and social networking technologies have much to offer education. Yet while the benefits of these offerings are still making themselves apparent, a growing number of educators are making sure they are on the front-end of the wave. By appreciating that the students filling their classroom chairs have a different perspective on the world, these teachers are able to experiment with new ways to connect with kids through these technologies. Moreover, the research is supporting this work, showing that "multimedia education improves both comprehension of the lesson material and students' interest in the lesson topic" (Brady, 2004).
