As we know near about 2 million wildebeest and half million zebra live in Serengeti national park. In search of water and food, they used to migrate from one place to another. It maintains the ecosystem and balances it. Near about 1.4 million wildebeest migrate every year towards north through Serengeti national park to Masai Mara national park. This process starts with the sweet grass of Serengeti which is available on the southern part of the national park. And its also create a lunch table for predators to taste the blood. They also get sufficient food at this time. In this way the ecosystem balance itself. From mid of December to march the southern Serengeti is packed with those animals and keep the grasses alive. At this time most of the wildebeest give birth to their offspring. At that time they need more nutrition to make their child healthy.
With the approach of April, the rains touch the floor of the jungle and it converts into vast grasslands. The plains are most beautiful and stunning at that time. It's perfect for a photographic safari. At this moment wildebeest start to migrate north because of the availability of food. From April to June it becomes the home of thousands. Availability of food and water make the place not less than heaven. Travelers can stay here during this time to watch the game or they can travel south and north.
By June this beautiful grassland empties its treasure and animals start to migrate further north towards Grumeti. At that time Grumeti is a breeding place for them. Due to dry land, they can move easily near the camps. It's best to watch them and witness the mighty kingdom there.
By July most of the wildebeest migrate through the Mara River where crocodiles are waiting to take their road tax. Its party time for crocodiles. Endless food and nutrition to sitting on the table. That's the reward of god for them. In comparison to southern grassland, the northern is less crowded.
Most of the travelers are waiting to have look on the dramatic river crossing of the herds where crocodile inside the river and lions outside the river. This situation is not less than any Hollywood movie scene. It is really worth to watch the game. The wildebeest risk their lives to cross the river and reach the higher grassland of Masai Mara. The process takes place during August and September.
Once they safely cross the river and reach the highlands then its time to give birth to their next generation. The grassland witness the race of life. The environment echos with the newborn voices. Its become playground for them. Till November this process takes place. At this time spectacular views can be seen on the floor of Masai Mara.
During November to December, the herds start to return south because of the dry grasslands. Again the game of life and death starts when they cross the river and finally they reach Serengeti. The west part of Serengeti witness the return migration of those wildebeest along with zebra and other migrating animals.
