theEYE - Grayson Perry - "I am not a potter" - YouTube - 0 views

  •
3 minute video of Grayson Perry talking about how he works. Since winning the Turner Prize in 2003, Grayson Perry has become the nation's favourite transvestite potter. In this film, he speaks engagingly about why he is an artist that uses ceramics and not a potter, and about the defining themes that run through his work. He explains the elaborate, labour intensive process involved in the making of his work and how he typically uses a variety of different techniques. Alongside the edgy undermining of our expectations of what pottery is, beauty and sensual overload are also of great importance to his practice. theEYE is an excellent introduction to contemporary artists and their works and provides an ideal resource for a wide range of audiences, including galleries, museums and colleges, as well as individual art-lover.

  •
A 4 minute video of jeweller Douglas Haslem talking about his work. In 'The Land of the Miniature' artist Dougal Haslem takes us on an intimate trip inside his studio and creative practice. Working on a small scale, he makes works that require a close viewing to discover their complex delights. As he describes, 'I interpret anthropomorphic forms in collected objects and then by using traditional gold and silvermsithing techniques, I can recompose those forms and elements and make miniature characters'. Many thanks to George Katsalidis for his filming and editing, and to Dougal Haslem for kindly letting us into his studio and chatting so openly about his practice.
