"The most powerful and ample resource for change in education is teachers' own expertise. Yet, teachers are regularly overstepped when it comes to leading school improvement.
In the United States, less than one-fourth of teachers feel that they have great influence over school decisions and policies in seven different areas, as noted in the National Center for Educational Statistics' Schools and Staffing Survey (SASS) database for 2003-04 reported by the National Staff Development Council (NSDC) in Professional Learning in the Learning Profession: A Status Report on Teacher Development in the U.S. and Abroad."
Check out the book trailers that my 6th grade students made this year using Movie Maker. Also, we have "bookcasts" separated by genre. For both the book trailers and podcasts, students can find a book designated with either a speaker sticker or a movie reel. They then can go to the computers to either view the trailer or listen to the podcast. It has really sparked the students interests in books. The trailer link is at the bottom of the page--don't miss it--it is the best part :)
Vialogues (which derives from "video dialogues") is an online discussion platform that permits videos to act as powerful teaching resources and the conversation starters. It provides a space for users to hold meaningful, dynamic time-stamped discussions about videos.
Excellent resource for educators and others interested in using popular culture resources of all sorts as conversation starters with students...
