Post-truth and the best way to teach | David Didau: The Learning Spy - 0 views

  •
Great post on the importance of evidence based practice. I particularly like this section (toward the end of the post) "By taking our cues from cognitive science and honing through trial and error in the classroom we can probably refine the best ways to explain difficult concepts and model how to complete challenging tasks. What we should aim for is a repertoire of 'best ways' so that if students struggle to grasp a concept when taught in one way, we'll have some tried and tested alternatives to fall back on."

What is learning? | David Didau: The Learning Spy - 0 views

  •
Go on, ask yourself, ask other teachers, ask some students: what is learning? It’s a pretty big question isn’t it? One that I might have felt hopelessly unequal to answering before reading Graham Nuthall‘s The Hidden Lives of Learners. This book draws together one of the most impressive attempts to find out what goes on

An interesting take on learning objectives/outcomes/intentions. As this is a blog post, take a look at the author & how valid you think their argument is. Learning outcomes, as we've been describing them, as certainly behaviourist in nature - to what extent to you agree with the critique in this blog post?

#TDReflex14 - Week One Finding a Voice (April 28 - May 4) Welcome to week one of our 'uncourse', Teach Different - The Reflexion Programme 2014 (known on-line as #TDReflex14). Here's Lou saying hello on a screencast. What's it all about? At this point you might be wondering what on earth an 'uncourse' is, and how you will engage with it! The idea is that the community is the curriculum. The primary goal, rather than being about a particular topic, is to participate with people in our field. You'll need to forget all those traditional 'teachery' ideas about learning outcomes, start and finish times, progression routes, assessment - just find a space that you are comfortable with, and join in! It is all based around the concept of rhizomatic learning - as defined here:
