Israel's Illegal Settlements: The US Goes Rogue At The UN | NEWS JUNKIE POST - 0 views

  •
On Friday, the United States stood alone and vetoed an Arab resolution at the United Nations Security Council. The resolution strongly condemned Israeli illegal settlements in the Palestinian occupied territories of the West Bank and East Jerusalem as a "major obstacle to peace". All 14 other members of the UN Security Council voted in favor of the resolution.

ThinkProgress » Meet The Workers Who Make Your iPad: 100 Hours Of Overtime, N... - 0 views

Back in March, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) astoundingly claimed that the iPad and iPhone are "built in the United States of America." This news must have been a great surprise to the Chinese workers who work for Taiwanese-based manufacturing giant Foxconn, which is notorious for the poor conditions at its factories and the wave of suicides at its plants. After much of the international media covered the abuses at Foxconn's factories, the company, along with the major American corporations it supplies - like Apple and HP - announced that it would be reforming its practices. Yet a new report from Students & Scholars Against Corporate Misbehaviour (SACOM), a Hong Kong-based advocacy and research group, finds that many of the practices that led more than a dozen workers committ suicide continue to live on. SACOM conducted a comprehensive study of practices at several Foxconn factories over the months of March and April and found that a number of shocking policies are in place. Here are some of the highlights of their study:

Over the past decade, an old word once used in the Maoist gulags has come back to China. It is "gulaosi" - and it is used to describe the men and women who are literally being worked to death producing clothes, electronics and toys for you and me.

Olbermann on Obama's assassination program - 0 views

  • Anyone who pledges unconditional, absolute fealty to a politician -- especially 18 months before an election -- is guaranteeing their own irrelevance.
  • Indeed, as I've documented before -- virtually every country that suffers horrible Terrorist attacks -- Britain, Spain, India, Indonesia -- tries the accused perpetrators in its regular court system, on their own soil, usually in the city that was attacked.  The U.S. -- Land of the Free and Home of the Brave -- stands alone in being too afraid to do so.

The two-tiered justice system: an illustration - Glenn Greenwald - Salon.com - 0 views

Of all the topics on which I've focused, I've likely written most about America's two-tiered justice system -- the way in which political and financial elites now enjoy virtually full-scale legal immunity for even the most egregious lawbreaking, while ordinary Americans, especially the poor and racial and ethnic minorities, are subjected to exactly the opposite treatment: the world's largest prison state and most merciless justice system. That full-scale destruction of the rule of law is also the topic of my forthcoming book. But The New York Times this morning has a long article so perfectly illustrating what I mean by "two-tiered justice system" -- and the way in which it obliterates the core covenant of the American Founding: equality before the law -- that it's impossible for me not to highlight it.
