Akka is the platform for the next generation event-driven, scalable and fault-tolerant architectures on the JVM We believe that writing correct concurrent, fault-tolerant and scalable applications is too hard. Most of the time it's because we are using the wrong tools and the wrong level of abstraction. Akka is here to change that. Using the Actor Model together with Software Transactional Memory we raise the abstraction level and provide a better platform to build correct concurrent and scalable applications. For fault-tolerance we adopt the "Let it crash" / "Embrace failure" model which have been used with great success in the telecom industry to build applications that self-heal, systems that never stop. Actors also provides the abstraction for transparent distribution and the basis for truly scalable and fault-tolerant applications. Akka is Open Source and available under the Apache 2 License.

"Blueprint provides a dependency injection framework for OSGi and was standardized by the OSGi Alliance in OSGi Compendium R4.2. It is designed to deal with the dynamic nature of OSGi, where services can become available and unavailable at any time. The specification is also designed to work with plain old Java objects (POJOs) enabling simple components to be written and unit tested in a JSE environment without needing to be aware of how they are assembled. The Blueprint XML files that define and describe the assembly of various components are key to the Blueprint programming model. The specification describes how the components get instantiated and wired together to form a running module. The following documentation covers the 80:20 usage of Blueprint. "Jsvc is a set of libraries and applications for making Java applications run on UNIX more easily. Jsvc allows the application (e.g. Tomcat) to perform some privileged operations as root (e.g. bind to a port < 1024), and then switch identity to a non-privileged user. It can run on Win32 via the Cygwin emulation layer (see Cygwin for more information), however Win32 users may prefer to use procrun instead, which allows the application to run as a Windows Service. The sources are located in the src/native/unix subdirectory. In the future APR may be used to provide more portable platform support. "

DdlUtils is a small, easy-to-use component for working with Database Definition (DDL) files. These are XML files that contain the definition of a database schema, e.g. tables and columns. These files can be fed into DdlUtils via its Ant task or programmatically in order to create the corresponding database or alter it so that it corresponds to the DDL. Likewise, DdlUtils can generate a DDL file for an existing database. DdlUtils uses the Turbine XML format, which is shared by Torque and OJB. This format expresses the database schema in a database-independent way by using JDBC datatypes instead of raw SQL datatypes which are inherently database specific. An example of such a file is:

Each node in a Jackrabbit workspace tree has a node type that defines the child nodes and properties it may (or must) have. Developers can use node types to define a custom content model for their application domain and have Jackrabbit enforce the constraints of that model at the repository level.

The Compact Namespace and Node Type Definition (CND) notation provides a compact standardized syntax for defining node types and making namespace declarations. The notation is intended both for documentation and for programmatically registering node types (if you are unfamiliar with JCR node types, you may want to read the general Node Types section first).
