Kardashian Divorce May Finally Remove Kardashian Wedding From Airwaves -- Vulture - 0 views

  •
Kardashian Divorce May Finally Remove Kardashian Wedding From Airwaves It was supposed to be a storybook wedding between a famous butt and a man she has never been able to climb to the top of, and now it has ended in heartbreak: Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries are divorcing. This presents a problem for E!, reports the New York Times, since the channel has aired its megabudgeted Kim's Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event almost every single day since it premiered a few weeks ago; the article claims that executives have been huddled in meetings all day, weighing whether to pull the special from the air. (Their union died so that we may live!) Meanwhile, though Kardashian has claimed in a statement that the divorce was arrived at "after careful consideration," TMZ reports that poor Humphries was blindsided, screaming "NOOO" and "Caesar is ALREADY home," before freeing some other basketball players to chase after her. "At the time, the case law wasn't quite as clear as it is today as to whether it is permissible for a school district to search the entire contents of a student's cell phone," Bowie said an in an interview. "In 2010, smartphones that could basically hold all the power and information of a computer were still a new thing, and [this issue] hadn't really been fleshed out in the courts yet." "

Free speech or cyberbullying? - The New York Times - 0 views

  •
Katherine Evans said she was frustrated with her English teacher for ignoring her pleas for help with assignments and a brusque reproach when she missed class to attend a school blood drive. So Evans, who was then a high school senior and honor student, logged onto the networking site Facebook and wrote a rant against the teacher, Sarah Phelps. "To those select students who have had the displeasure of having Sarah Phelps, or simply knowing her and her insane antics: Here is the place to express your feelings of hatred," she wrote. Her posting drew a handful of responses, some of which were in support of the teacher and critical of Evans. "Whatever your reasons for hating her are, they're probably very immature," a former student of Phelps wrote in her defense. A few days later, Evans removed the post from her Facebook page and went about the business of preparing for graduation and studying journalism in the fall. But two months after her online venting, Evans was called into the principal's office and was told she was being suspended for "cyberbullying," a blemish on her record that she said she feared could keep her from getting into graduate schools or landing her dream job.

Voice of Yankees Draws High Ratings and Several Critics - NYTimes.com - 1 views

  •
Voice of Yankees Draws High Ratings and Many Critics There is no more polarizing figure in New York sports broadcasting than the idiosyncratic and eccentric Sterling. His home run calls - "An A-bomb from A-Rod" or "Robbie Cano, don't you know" - are cultural references that will permanently mark this latest era of Yankees success. He is unquestionably popular among the cosmic community of Yankees fans, his presence entering or exiting Yankee Stadium causing the same commotion as most players'. The ratings for Yankees radio broadcasts are strong. The team's management and players routinely and unwaveringly praise him.

This story is newsworthy. It affects many in the republican party and in politics as well. This stroy fills the qualities of celebrity, importance, and timeliness. Celebrity because this person (Bob Turner) is very well talked about, Importance because it effects all republicans, and Timeliness because it happened two days ago.
  • A little-known Republican businessman from Queens, channeling voter discontent with President Obama into an upset, won election to Congress on Tuesday from the heavily Democratic district in New York City last represented by Anthony D. Weiner.

Guidance counselor witnesses killer's capture on NYC subway - 0 views

    • Emily M

I believe that this story is news worthy because it's not everyday you witness an arrest, none the less of a killer, on a subway. I think this story would catch people's attention because of its unusual nature. You wouldn't really expect to see a story about witnessing a killer in a student run school news paper. Also another quality I think this article holds is proximity, since we are less than an hour away from New York City.
    • Matt Straley

I think this is newsworthy because one of the personnel working at central witnessed a killer get taken down. Its is proximity because occurred so close. Emotion because one of the people we know was near a dangerous person.
