ESPN analyst curses on 'Monday Night Football,' apologizes - Shutdown Corner ... - 3 views

  • ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski momentarily forgot he was calling a football game to millions of viewers when he threw in a casual curse word during a breakdown of a replay on "Monday Night Football."
  • As you can see from the clip, he apologized a few minutes later.
  • "That's one Chad [Henne] would love to have back," Jaworski said. "He knew he had the one-on-one matchup going down the right sideline. "S---, you have to get rid of this ball just a split-second quicker."

  • We accept your apology, Jaws. You're forgiven, especially because sitting in a booth with Jon Gruden all night could make even the most straitlaced man drop a few curse words.
  • The verbal goof came late in the game after Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne(notes) overthrew Brandon Marshall(notes) in the end zone.
  • What I love about this is that there was no stumbling, no backtracking in the dropping of the s-word; Jaws just said it casually, like it wasn't a big deal. He was probably imagining he was breaking down film in a hotel room, talking to whoever else was with him.

I found it interesting because I watched the entire game and didn't even notice. Its apparent because it just happened the other night.

Importance-It's important because it violates the rules of what you can or cannot say over the air. Human Interest-Most people would find it interesting because they probably didn't notice either until he apologized for it. Unusual Nature/Conflict-Some people might get offended by it though, you can never tell what people are gonna find insulting. Special Interest- This doesn't happen very often so I'm sure people will find this amusing.

Technology News: Tech Buzz: Will Microsoft Get Lucky With Yahoo? - 0 views

  •
Microsoft may have been "lucky," as CEO Steve Ballmer put it, that its 2008 bid to buy Yahoo for $47 billion fell through. But what he might have really meant was that now, Microsoft may be able to scoop up Yahoo for a fraction of that sum, a venture it's reportedly pursuing. Meanwhile, Google shows Ice Cream Sandwich, RIM shows BBX and Apple shows its teeth.

Verlander leads Tigers past White Sox 5-0 - MLB - Yahoo! Sports - 0 views

  • Verlander pitched seven strong innings to earn his major league-best 23rd win and the Tigers blanked the Chicago White Sox 5-0 for their 11th consecutive victory. Verlander (23-5) allowed six hits, struck out six and walked two while becoming the first Tiger since Hal Newhouser in 1946 to win 11 consecutive starts and the AL’s first 23-game winner since Barry Zito(notes) in 2002. “It’s probably best I’ve felt in the last few starts, the last five or six,” Verlander said. “I really felt like I was getting back that rhythm I’ve been trying to find for a while.” That’s a scary statement for the rest of the American League. Verlander improved to 11-0 with a 2.51 ERA since his last loss on July 15 in Chicago, his only defeat in 15 decisions against AL Central opponents this season.

The reason why i thought this article was newsworthy was because it just happened yesterday, it talks about a team contending for a playoff spot in baseball, and the majority of the article talks about the best pitcher in baseball dominating yet again. Qualities it contained: Prominence/Celebrity when it talks about Justin Verlander. Importance and imopact when it talks about them contending for a playoff spot (at least thats important for baseball fans). Timeliness: it happened yesterday. And finally, conflict. It describes a game that happened between two teams.

Bronx DA's office declines to prosecute alarming number of cases, probe finds | The New... - 0 views

  • The best place to get arrested in the city is the Bronx. Hands down. That's because the Bronx district attorney's office declines to prosecute an alarming number of cases, a Daily News probe found. Prosecutors toss cases at twice the rate of the citywide average - and more than three times the rate of their counterparts in Manhattan and Brooklyn, stats show.
  • The office refused to press charges for 1,195 felony arrests, or about 10% of 11,938 total felony cases. They also rejected 6,315 misdemeanors, or roughly 20% of the 31,582 total. The overall 17.3% rejection rate is more than twice the citywide average of 8.4%.
  • In the past month, the Bronx district attorney's office declined to prosecute a number of disturbing crimes. Among them: - A crazed woman slashed a man in his stomach, but dodged attempted murder charges because of an uncooperative victim. A cop source said prosecutors did "less than nothing" to gain his trust. - Officers found two men sitting on a park bench reeking of pot with a large bag of crack cocaine at their feet. Prosecutors deemed there was not enough evidence to prove the drugs belonged to them, records show. Steven Reed, a spokesman for Johnson, attributed the office's high case rejection rate to "rigorous screening." "Charging decisions are based on the facts of the case and the law," he said. "The deprivation of an individual's liberty is something that we take very seriously."

What does it mean to be poor in America? | The Lookout - Yahoo! News - 3 views

    • Barath P

These are raw facts about the rising in poverty rate, and the fact that they are unable to support their families other than the uses of soup kitchens and shelters
  • We learned Tuesday that a record number of Americans are living in poverty, and that the poverty rate--15.1 percent--rose for the fourth straight year.
  • The Census Bureau defines as poor any individual living on an income of less than $11,139, or any family of four living on less than $22,314. But that measure, developed over 40 years ago, is inexact at best. It doesn't include non-cash benefits--things such as food and housing subsidies--that can play a key role in supporting families. Nor does the Census definition take into account the large differences in the cost of living in different part of the country, or expenses such as child-care.

I think this is news worthy because our school has gotten in trouble for the stuff we've chanted. May not have been the best things to say but it was fun and interesting at the time

While President Obama and the assorted GOP contenders for the 2012 presidential nomination push their ideas for getting the country back in the black, there are some U.S. cities and counties on the brink.
  •
Coming in at No. 9 on the list is Camden. The city has been beset with money issues for quite a while, highlighted by a mass layoff of its police officers and firefighters earlier this year. The city collected $181,257,000 in revenue in 2009, but was in debt to the tune of $103,284,000 during that same year.

Despite the stalled economy, the nation's wealthiest are worth a combined $1.53 trillion, nearly equivalent to the GDP of our neighbor Canada. Their total wealth is up 12% in the year through August 26, when we took a snapshot of everyone's net worth, meaning these affluent folks did slightly better than the markets; the S&P 500, for instance, was up 10% in that time.
