Neshaminy adviser suspended over newspaper's word ban - 0 views

  •
"In an e-mail to the Pennsylvania School Press Association that was obtained by The Inquirer, adviser Tara Huber said that she was suspended without pay for "willful neglect of duties and insubordination," and that the newspaper would have $1,200 docked from its student activity fund. The suspension came after Huber failed to prevent students from printing a copy of the paper in June in which they removed an op-ed article containing Redskin, a word they maintain is discriminatory.  Neshaminy principal Rob McGee did not return messages Tuesday afternoon. Huber, reached by telephone, said she could not discuss the matter further."

A former student at Elizabethtown College was, indeed, probably surprised earlier this month after a Pennsylvania federal district court ruled that the school broke no rules when it hired a investigation service to snoop on his email account without his knowledge. In a disturbing decision - though, sadly, not particularly surprising to those of us who watch these things - the court again confirmed that when it comes to campus email, we live in public.

Electronic signs mark speeding hot spots around Hunterdon County | NJ.com - 1 views

  •
They're popping up along roads all over the place: electronic signs mounted on a trailer with the message: "Your Speed Is" some number that might surprise you. What do you do? Slow down. And that alone is helping make Hunterdon roads safer, especially for walkers and bicyclists. Clinton, Frenchtown and Raritan Township are among the area municipalities that own the signs. Others borrow the one HART Commuter Information Services owns. Using funds from the federal Safe Routes to School program, HART paid $5,000 for a refurbished solar-powered unit that it lends out for periods of up to a month.

On August 29, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) launched a new attendance policy across the county, creating a new measure to counter absences and tardies. The new attendance policy states that having three unlawful absences will result in an auto-generated letter sent from the MCPS Central Office to the parents or guardian of the student. Having five unlawful absences will put students in danger of losing credit in the classes they missed. In addition, the new attendance policy gives students an opportunity to regain credit from classes.
