Lesson Plans - Where Were the U.S. Presidents Born? - 1 views

  •
Mandy Toll 9/11/11 Overview: I thought that this website was very useful in finding more information on presidents of the United States. This website's audience is mainly teachers who are looking for lesson plans on U.S. presidents. It tells you information about where the presidents are born with a lesson plan to teach students in grades third through fifth. It also tells you when they were presidents and how long they were. At the top of the page there are also other lesson plans on social studies units that you can choose from the drop down and also choose your grade level that the lesson plan is geared toward. I thought that this website was very easy to use and that it would be good for other lesson plans in the future for other social studies subjects because there are a lot of resources available on the website. Content: This website from National Geographic is easy to tell the content and audience of the site. Because it has lesson plans its audience is more likely teachers who are looking for lesson plans on the U.S. presidents. The information on the site is up to date and has material on it that is appropriate for learning more about presidents. The links to other sites are current and work well. The other lesson plans on the page for other social studies units also work well. The information on the website is well organized and easy to understand. There are many links to other sites that have to do with the U.S. presidents from this website to help you further your knowledge and gain more information for doing a lesson plan on presidents. Design: I thought that the website was not very attractive however there are images and other things to engage you and let you know what the website is about. There are clear indicators all over the page to inform you on the contents of the site. I liked that you could choose other subject areas and choose you

Mandy Toll 9/11/11 Overview: This website was easy to use. The purpose of the site was clearly notated that the website was for both teachers and parents. My overall impression of the website was that it was easy to use and gave you a lot of ideas for lessons you could use in the classroom. The website also gives other resources like videos and links to further the students' knowledge on presidents and the election process. Content: It was easy to see that the content of this website was about lesson plans on presidents and elections for first graders. The audience is clearly noted for teachers and parents. Jaymes Talkington\nJanuary 24, 2010\nhttp://www.whitehouse.gov/about/white-house-101/\n\nContent\nThis site is full of information about the Whitehouse and all its former presidents. Both teachers and students can find a use for this site. Other information given on the site includes facts about how our government works, how the administration processes, and issues that are currently a problem in the Whitehouse. There shouldn't be any question of the authenticity of the information since it is a .gov site, although the authors are not named. The site is well organized to find what you need right away. \nDesign\nI didn't have any problems pulling up the site right away, and all the links seemed to be working. The homepage is easy to use and has a lot of different categories and news on it. All of the videos are used to inform not to advertise anything. There is plenty of information on the site that makes it worth visiting. I wasn't able to find any dates on when the site was last revised. \nOverview\nThis is a good site to use when wanting information on the Whitehouse and how our government works. The website itself is easy to use and contains a lot of information. I would be comfortable using the information on a paper or for teaching history and government. \n

US Presidency Lesson Plans - 0 views

  •
Overview- This site overall is a great resource for teachers looking for a lesson plan about the United States Presidency. There is not much question in its credibility, due to the fact that it comes directly from the US Mint. It can help any social studies teacher, no matter the grade level because it offers a variety of lesson plans. Though, it fails to offer anything interactive for the student to partake in. The only thing it gives is factual information, with very little interaction. Content- Within the site they make it very easy for a teacher to identify where they can access lesson planes. It also gives lesson plans for all ages. So no matter what grade you teach you are able to find the lesson plan that fits your age range. The sponsor is clearly labeled, but I was unable to find an author for both the site and lesson plans. Other than that, the website content is very helpful if you are looking for a lesson on the US presidency. Design- The design is easy to use, but it is not very eye catching. It uses basic graphics that get the job done, but overall not too great. Its main focus is to deliver content and help with information. All links work well. Not much time spent on trying to make it look good.

The Decision to Drop the Bomb - 2 views

  •
Oct. 7, 2012 Good information on why the President chose to drop the atomic bombs
  •
This site was in the middle for my liking. It was not the best site when it came to the web design evaluation. I gave it about a seven out of ten. This site did have pretty god information regarding why the President decided to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. However, you couldn't find who the author was, and that bothered me. The information is seen in more than one site so I can tell that the author is creditable. I would use this site again but, not as my first choice.

Ask Jeeves.com is a website that can give you definitions, images and answer all your questions. This site helps students of all kinds with projects, essays, news, and references. The sites images though have some raciest pictures that make fun of President Obama. These pictures should not be allowed on these sites yet they are. Ask Jeeves is note a good site for pictures showing true photos of a person's real character. The intended audience for this site is anyone needing to find something or asking a question about a certain topic. A lot of college and high school students use this site for problems they may face with a project, paper or definition. The resources for this site contain photos, web findings, news, and videos. The resources are mostly correct, but like Google they have photos that are not accurate. This site is very good overall and the only thing it lacks is its credibility of some of its images. I have used this site for definitions, resources and web findings. My impression of this site is good; I just would just like to see that they ban pictures that show raciest pictures or pictures with no reliability. I would use this site for about anything to help me to complete a paper or project.

Posted by Riley Kallhoff on 1/25/2010 Overview: Funschool.kaboose.com is a site for teachers and students. It is a place where teachers can find educational games for students. This site has a lot of stuff going on in it. There are a lot of advertisements and just unneeded things in the website. The purpose of the site is to make life easier on teachers and help them in the classroom. The website is a little out of control and I would think this makes it hard to navigate. I had some problems figuring it out at first so I think students would struggle as well. Content: This is a website that is a little overwhelming when you first come in. There is a ton going on and you really don't know where to start. I would say it's a little hard to determine what exactly this website is used for at first. It's hard to tell if it's a teacher or a student website. The authors of the site are hard to find and the site is hard to navigate in its own right. You will click on one thing and it will take you on a little bit of a wild goose chase to find what you want if you ever do find what you are looking for. The links on the site work fine, but there are very few of them and most of them are distracting advertisements. I'm still not sure if this is supposed to be an educational site or if it is suppose to be for games. This site is hard to understand and I'm not sure this is a good site to send students to. Design: The website comes up very quickly, and is a fast site as far as downloading goes. However, when you get to the homepage you are confused from the start and you are overwhelmed with chaos. There is far too much on the homepage and it is like to much stimulus to know what to do next. I found it hard to navigate my way through the site. There are advertisements and it takes way too long to get to your desired destination. I think the graphics and animations are very hard to follow and take away from the site instead of enhancing it. The informa

David May 1/23/11 Fun site of games and entertainment. Educational to younger children. Overview: The website is filled with games and fun quizzes for younger children. The games look interesting, but they aren't filled with meaningful information for anyone with a mild understanding of history. The history information quiz is very basic such as who was the first president of the U.S. There are links to crafts and home activities. The website is for children and parents because the home activities and advertisements. Content: The audience is younger children which is clear by the bright colors and the fun game link pictures. Another hidden audience is the parents of the children that will be playing games on this website. This is shown through with the home craft projects and the advertisements for sandwich meats and other child oriented products. The website has a large copyrighted page and a large page of contact information with phone numbers as well as email addresses. Helping children learn is what the supposed site goal is with many advertisements of things that children would want. The clear owner of the site is Disney because the ads and the many links to other Disney sites and online stores on the links areas of the website. The site is very well put together to gain the attention of child and does a good job of entertaining them while hiding a bit of learning with it. Design: The site has wonderful appeal even older than grade school students get caught by this site. Everything is where it says it will be with wonderful smoothness and ease of use. Any type of additional information regarding the copyright, other links, and sponsor (which is Disney) is clearly identified with an entire page or more devoted to it. The site is very well put together and that is easily seen. The games and animations work very well and are quick to load. The games and animations will keep eyes locked on the screen for hours.

Social Studies for Kids - 1 views

  •
Gary Allen Jan 23, 2011. Overview: As the title suggests, this is a website designed to help kids learn about American history. The site is authored by a man with much experience in presenting history for kids and includes a link to his biography. Content: This site contains many easy to follow links, a glossary, interesting facts, a search box and even some educational games to help present the content. Also included are links to other sites of similar content and a weekly newsletter. There is no date for the last revision of the site, but there is a link to contact the author and ask questions.  Design: The site is fairly simple in design with the main navigation across the top, another menu of links down the left side, and ads on the right side. The lack of flashy elements helps the site load extremely fast however. Navigation is very straightforward and clearly labelled.

Overview: This website's purpose within in a classroom could be for research papers and projects. Each student could choose their own topic and then navigate the links easily to learn more information with concise bullet points, pictures, correlations to current events, and related games. This website included topics in several areas but primarily history, geography, economics, and government. Content: This website has a wide variety of upper elementary social studies information including even broader topics of history, geography, government and economics. The home page had a general toolbar that provided information about the site and the creator. On the left side was a huge bar that linked to many specific history topics such as current events, teaching resources, timelines, and maps. Once you have clicked on a topic from the side bar there are even more links to even narrower research areas. This would be a good site to use for students to create a research project about a topic that they are interested in. There was only one link found that was not up-to-date. Design: The design is not very appealing especially for young children it initially looks a bit bland. Once you have picked a side link and narrowed your topic there are visually appealing pictures and games to go along with the information being taught. The home page took a while to download and had an ad that was generated more towards adults pop-up. The site is easy to navigate following all working links. The website did not work well in Internet explorer but did work well in Google Chrome.

Brianna Gillespie 9/14/11 OVERVIEW: This website is to teach students about the many different subjects related to social studies. Students can use this website to answer almost any questions they could have about social studies. This website is mainly for older children because it has a lot of reading that may be a little difficult for younger children to comprehend. CONTENT: The content includes current events, games, economics, geography, presidents, states, and many more. Within each subject are a variety of links to choose from. Each link is focused on a main point of the subject. There is also a section on the main page titled "This Week in History" with some facts about a certain event that happened in the past. DESIGN: The design has some color, but is a little bland. However, each page has a piece of clipart on it, so it is not completely boring. Children would be able to navigate around this website fairly easily too.

Elementary-Friendly Website - 0 views

This website is a lot better for kids than Google or other search engines because it is easy to navigate and easy to use! It also has a layout and design that is pleasing to kids.It has fun cartoon images instead of just bulleted lists. It has many great tools to help children succeed in their classes.

The name of this website is Fact Monster. It is a part of the Family Education Network and published by Pearson Education. The purpose of this website is to provide general information about common school subjects - such as math, science, and U.S. history - to children. The website is intended for use by elementary-aged children because the information given is commonly known by most students older than twelve years of age. If I were to approach this site from the viewpoint of a 2nd grader, I could find myself seeing this sight as informative but not extremely interactive. The content is very elementary, so a 7th grader could breeze through the entire sight in under half an hour. That being said, this site can be a great resource for students to use if they need a simple website to help them review certain concepts, such as converting measurements or learning about the presidents of the United States. I found the design of the website to be rather plain and unexciting. It hasn't been updated or changed since I last visited the sight when I was in 6th grade. The authors of the site are not clearly identified and the publisher of the site can be found at the bottom of the webpage in very fine print. All in all, I would not use this sight within my classroom, but merely inform my students that the website exists and can be used to review information that they all (hopefully) learned in previous grades.

An amusement park of math and more! Math lessons, math games, math practice, math fun! The purpose of the website is to give lessons and games that will allow kids to easier understand math. The website seems easy to understand and gives simple explanations on math concepts. Content: The website is easily understood, and very clearly promotes math games and lessons to younger elementary age kids. The president, Karen, and writers of the website are clearly presented. CoolMAth.com- Review on 10/4/12 Diigo i.d= Jessle33 CoolMAth.com purpose is a site designed to make math more fun; referring to itself as an "amusement park" of games used to help make math more enjoyable. This site is designed for students of age 13 and up. The lowest level of math that it provides is pre-algebra so students younger than 8th grade may struggle a bit if using this site. There are various resources available for students who use this site: math lessons, math practice, math dictionaries, math games, all levels of math pre-algebra and up, puzzles, books, etc. There is also a tab that parents and teachers may visit that provides ways to help your kids with math homework, web education, and certain resources (books) that are available to them. My overall impression of this site is that it is easy for students to navigate no matter their age and bright colors are used. There are games that keep the students engaged and help to make the lessons educational, but beneficial. There are a lot of various activities for the students to use and that helps in many ways.

Kayla Hyde 10/20/2013 Overview: This website is made to make math cool and fun to students. It would be great for those students that don't think math can be fun or that rather play computer games then do math. It is a great way to promote learning in a new way. Content: This site is full of information and different links to different games based on different skills. There are puzzles and games that can be targeted for children ages three to five to eighth grades. Any student at any math level can find a game to help increase their learning of the subject. Design: The website can be a little overwhelming with so many links and so many colors. Because the site is set on a black background and multicolored text, it can be a little too much at times. Also there are many ads that can be a little much, but the content is still worth it.
