    The Florida Schools created the California Schools Recognition Plan in 1985. Their function is to enhance and advertise California schools things, which are to improve student scholastic achievement and promote students in relation to measurable goals. This program identifies and honors public schools that show inspiring and exceptional success. Though participation in this program is voluntary, the California Distinguished School Award is highly coveted. copyright

    To be considered for the honor, California schools must meet a number of membership requirements. These include designated national and state accountability measures which are in relation to the No Daughter or son Left Out, Adequate Yearly Progress, and Academic Performance Index rating programs. Approximately, five per cent of California schools are selected annually for the prize, without less than 40 counties generally being represented.

    The program alternates honors annually involving the elementary and secondary California schools. Year 2006 recognizes primary schools.

    California schools that meet with the requirements complete an application and send it to a staff of local teachers from across the state, which assess and score the merits of each school application. Schools with the greatest scoring programs are selected as statewide nominees for the award. An onsite visit is then received by nominated California schools with a group of state school superintendents and members of the California Department of Education, who confirm the accuracy of the application data.

    These California schools chosen for the Distinguished School Award are honored at a wedding, where in fact the state school superintendent honors a plaque and flag to each school. The program and annual events are financed through the kindness of prominent California corporations and statewide training businesses that feel educational quality should be encouraged and rewarded openly.

    In 2006, accurate documentation 377 public elementary schools were honored with the California Distinguished School Award, exceeding the 302 elementary schools honored in 2004 the final elementary school honor cycle. They represent the largest quantity of elementary school awardees in the 21-year history of this program.

    The 2006 California schools awardees were selected from 190 school districts in 40 counties. These were selected from the biggest number of qualified elementary schools currently, setting another record for this system. Of the more than 5,000 elementary schools in California, 2,043 were eligible to apply for the 2006 award. California schools are demonstrating that student scholastic quality can be developed and constantly increased.
