This wiki was created for an iPad workshop at ESSDACK in Hutchinson, KS on October 18, 2011 by Judy Beam and Mary Frazier. You'll notice the pages of this wiki (on the left hand side) are the Common Core Standards. We have placed iPad apps on each page that might help your students learn that concept. "This year, we've decided to do the same thing, adding a ton of great apps to the list that you'll want to get on to your iPad straight away. The list includes apps to handle your photos and videos, music apps, productivity apps, a few essentials to meet all of your social media needs, and of course a few games to keep you entertained."

"After Apple pushed its 25 billionth app this weekend there was nothing especially surprising about the list of all-time paid apps for the iPhone: games and novelty apps dominated it. But the list of all-time paid apps for the iPad was somewhat revealing. Pages, Apple's word processing app, was up there at number one. Numbers and Keynote were on the list as well, as well as Penultimate, QuickOffice Pro HD, Notability and Splashtop Remote Desktop. Almost 25 percent of the list was comprised of productivity apps."

The iPad is loaded with accessibility features from font size, assistive touch, speak auto text, voice over, speak selection, and zoom. These features are especially important for people who are visually impaired, physically disabled and need more than one tool to access their iPad independently.  Following is a list of apps and accessories that will enhance the iPad experience, including styli, iPad covers and other features that make the iPad the best tool for both students and adults.

"Chrome for iPad (and iOS) hit the iPad App Store yesterday. I'm a huge fan of Chrome as a desktop browser. It's by far the fastest I've seen and is my everyday browser on my MacBook Pro. So I was as excited as anyone to see an iPad version hit the App Store."

"Today while browsing @tonyvincent 's blog I noticed a cool tool that he was using to share his favorite IOS apps. Appsfire is a place for you to create a list of your favorite apps as well as find other apps that you may like. Appsfire also allows you to "Follow" a search term for updates in the future. You can also limit your search to free only apps. Another great feature of the site is the ability to share your "Device" on social networks. You can also add your device to your blog."

" A common tie between all these apps is Readability. The company provides a method to show content of Web site posts on the iPad without all of the extra distractions you have to sort through when viewing via a Web Browser. Now, Readability has released a Universal app for your iPad and iPhone. With the free app on our iPads, we need to examine how our time is best spent."

Thanks for these great resources. I particularly liked play and sing, with its great British accent. I'm keen to find apps with UK spelling and accents for primary school. Any ideas or pointers would be appreciated.

"The Elements: A Visual Exploration, by Theodore Gray, is a simply stunning iPad app with mesmerising high-definition graphics, videos, and detailed information for every element in the Periodic Table. While users can't copy information out of the app, it is possible to save screenshots. This app is available in American and British English versions, and is translated into French, German, and Japanese (check the description)."

Most people who are Mac users would probably be familiar with iMovie. It's an easy to use app for making professional looking movies to share with others or for students to show their understanding of a concept or issue. iMovie is great, however, it is not the only app for making and editing movies on the iPad. There are numerous apps that do this job admirably - why don't you find one that matches your workflow or the learning styles of your students. Here is a small selection;
