"However, an iPad as it is wouldn't be as useful for a student: the apps are what makes it useful. Today we're reviewing an app that can help students keep their work, schedules and more organized. It's called Pocket Schedule."

Unlocking Literacy with iPad - 5 views

  •
"As a veteran English teacher in the Euclid City Schools, and someone who sees great value in integrating technology, I wanted to contribute to the ongoing dialog regarding tablet computing, specifically, the iPad, and its impact on student literacy and students' self perception of their own literacy. You can find an article detailing my teacher research below as well a short video I produced for this project and to share at the "

Teaching Students with iPads | SchoolTechnology.org - 8 views

"Teaching students with iPads is like nothing I have ever done in the past 13 years as a teacher. Although I have been stuck in the honeymoon stage with the iPad since I got the first generation a couple of years ago, I never imagined some of the things that kids are capable of doing with iPads. I admit at first I thought that kids would just use their iPads to do a little research on the web, but they were not happy with just browsing the web, they wanted to do so much more."

K12 Students View Mobile Devices as Critical to Learning Process Survey - 20 views

  •
The report also reveals a shift in thinking by parents and educators who are now beginning to accept the role of mobile devices as instructional tools, in part because they are active users of mobile devices in their own personal lives. In some cases, educators have embraced mobile devices as a catalyst for making learning a more student directed experience. At Jamestown Elementary School in Virginia, for example, students use mobile devices to

What's working: Teacher uses grants, tools to teach students ... - Bakersfield.com - 0 views

  • GRANTS FOR LEARNING Webb would likely teach differently without the more than 20 grants she's gotten in recent years. Earlier this year, Webb was one of three educators nationwide who received a grant for the "Fascinating Forensics" project. Students learn how the three branches of U.S. government work together to create, implement and enforce the law. They learn interview techniques plus about physical evidence like blood spatter and fingerprints. In April she received a "true sport award" from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency for motivating students to resist performance-enhancing drugs, among other things. In her program, called Webb's Walkers and Recess Runners, students learn about nutritious eating, portion control, personal hygiene, body image, heart rate, metabolism and the importance of physical activity at home. The grants speak to Webb's personal interest. She's an athlete, which she said could also explain her competitive nature for the grants. Winning them, she said, is "like winning a race."

iPads at Burley: Back to the Beginning - 6 views

  •
"Even though it's October it still feels very much like the beginning of the year. One of the first thoughts that many teachers have about their students is "they look so little!" It's true. Those tall confident students that left us have gone on to be "little" to next year's teacher and we have our own new crop of "little" people to educate. This becomes even more pronounced in a technology classroom. Everything takes longer, typing, starting, opening, finding, searching. Whatever it is they need time to figure it out. Patience is key. So what can we do?"

What can you do with an iPad in the classroom? « syded - 11 views

  •
"The iPad is not going to replace teachers or 'fix' education. There is a cost implication that must be taken into account and only an educator will know if it is right for their students. Indeed the cost-benefit analysis for an establishment must take into account a host of factors when considering iPad use in the classroom. However, if there are iPads in the classroom, there are a number of applications that can enhance learning and assist the educator in developing student skills. In fact, the iPad allows educators to build on existing styles and increase flexibility in their classroom whilst personalising learning."

Top 3 Math Apps for iPhone or iPad | Computer How To Guide - 8 views

  •
"Lets face it, math is not the most intriguing or intuitive subject. For this reason, many students find learning math a real drag! As a math tutor in NYC that deals with children of all ages, I am constantly looking for fun, new ways to teach my students. Since many of them have access to an iPhone or iPad (or both), I recommend that they use their devices as an educational tool. Believe it or not, your smartphone or tablet can be a great learning resource."

The Three Fs for Using Technology in Education - Flexible, Familiar & Frequen... - 12 views

"The idea of students sitting in front of PCs learning how to use Word is as dead as the proverbial dead parrot. It is already an antiquated model of learning - like chalk or fountain pens with ink-wells; it has a whiff of the twentieth century about it, rather than preparing our students for the future."

Socrative is an app that turns any device into part of a student response system. Not sure why I haven't written about before as it has won all kinds of awards. If you have BYOD or iPad or any type of 1:1 technology, Socrative is a must use so you don't have to buy a separate response system.

The staff trial will last 6 weeks, before the students are given a device for the summer term. The hope is that this will allow us to identify key issues with pedagogy and staff development alongside concerns with our wireless network."
