This wiki was created for an iPad workshop at ESSDACK in Hutchinson, KS on October 18, 2011 by Judy Beam and Mary Frazier. You'll notice the pages of this wiki (on the left hand side) are the Common Core Standards. We have placed iPad apps on each page that might help your students learn that concept. There will be overlap - one app may meet more than one standard. Please leave comments, suggest apps, or share your experiences in the discussion tab of the appropriate page.

$10 iPad App Setup | My Hullabaloo - 21 views

  •
"One question I seem to get a lot about the iPad is what apps do I recommend that are free. I am hearing from a lot of teachers that they have no way to add paid apps and thus are stuck trying to find free apps. My experience is that many free apps stink. They have many adds, require in app purchases to be useful, or are just junk. I tend to stay away from most free apps. So what are you to do if the district controls adding paid apps? My suggestion is to build relationships with the decision makers. Don't just ask for a bunch of apps, instead provide documentation and purpose for a few apps you would like to have. I know this process takes time and effort but if you can show the purpose and learning you have a much better chance. If you need lesson ideas I suggest checking out my Pinterest page, and three of my favorite Pinterest pages: iPadsammy, TechChef4u, and Sue Gorman. Look for apps and lesson ideas there and modify them to fit your standards and kids. If I was starting from scratch this is the $10 iPad app setup I would push for in my kindergarten classroom. (I will be posting a $20 setup later)"

Organize Your Notes with Remarks from Readdle - iPad Review | PadGadget - 1 views

  •
"Remarks focuses on one thing: Taking notes and making them useful. It's pretty simple, really. Use this app to take down notes anywhere-you can use the standard text keyboard or use your finger or a stylus to write out notes in your own handwriting."

Best Free iPad App of the Week: Flipboard - iPad Insight - 3 views

  •
"This week's pick is Flipboard. This is a long overdue pick for this series, as Flipboard has been, and remains the absolute standard for news apps on the iPad. It's a past choice as Apple's iPad of the Year and one of TIME Magazine's Top 50 Innovations."

NotifyMe: Powerful Reminders | iPad.AppStorm - 1 views

  •
"Now, more than ever before, reminders are a necessity. Life is busy and it's too easy to forget about what needs to be done. Apple finally brought their own solution to this problem by including the Reminders app as standard in iOS. Unfortunately, Reminders can leave some users wanting more and not being completely satisfied. NotifyMe aims to fill the gap for users who are left wanting more from the Reminders app. "

Switch To A 24-Hour Clock On Your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch [iOS Tips] | Cult of Mac - 0 views

  •
"The default iOS clock in the US is a 12-hour clock, with AM and PM appended to the numbers to denote morning or evening. The other, more standard way of representing the time is with the 24-hour clock, in which any time after 12:00 is the logical 13:00, 14:00, and so on. It's really easy to set on your iPhone or other iOS device."

Best Practices for Deploying iPads in Schools | MindShift - 1 views

  •
"As schools get ready to deploy iPads this year, each one is scrambling to figure out how to develop an efficient and effective system that works. With no standardized system or uniform roadmap to follow, at the moment, it's up to individual schools to reach out through their networks to find information about best practices and smooth, streamlined service."

Operation Math for iPad Takes the Routine Out of Learning Math Facts | PadGadget - 8 views

  •
"Learning basic math facts is a standard part of an elementary school education, but many children (and even some parents) dread the repetition of flash cards and times tables. Operation Math for iPad by Spinlight Studio hopes to make learning math facts less onerous by turning the task into a game."

This Wall Wart Adapter Adds iPad-Friendly USB Ports To Any Power Socket | Cult of Mac - 8 views

  •
" Take a look at the RCA USB Wall Plate Charger, a gadget which does exactly what it says on the label. The charger is simple, and all the better for it. Round back is a standard 3-prong plug, which mates with any grounded socket in your or anybody else's home. On the front of the rather utilitarian-looking box is a pass-through three-pin socket and a pair of USB ports. One of these ports will supply 2.1 amps of juice to charge the thirsty iPad, or you can hook up two of any other USB-powered device."

"Now, there's a special, modified, pocket flash drive that works as usual with PCs and Macs, but can transfer and stream files to popular mobile devices without standard USB ports, such as Apple's iPad and iPhone, Amazon's Kindle Fire and many other Android devices."

Thoughts on AppleCare for iPads in Schools « EdApps.ca - 4 views

  •
"I don't want to make blanket statements regarding purchases. I fully recognize that every educator, school and institution has to decide what makes sense for them; ultimately, it is you that must live with the purchasing decision. At the same time, I would like to point out some things to consider. Applecare, from what I understand, extends the standard warranty of your iPad from 12 months to 24 months. Additionally, if you crack the screen of your iPad, you can have that iPad replaced for an additional $49 fee over and above the cost of your applecare protection plan of $99."
