"This is the second year that our 4th graders have created superhero posters with QR code audio stories attached. This project is a perfect blend of art, technology, and writing. Our 4th graders remembered listening to these stories last year, so they were highly motivated to create interesting characters, attractive posters, and clever stories."
In this screencast, digital learning consultant Wesley Fryer demonstrates how to use the $4 iPad application "eBook Creator" to export an enhanced eBook (in ePub format) to the DropBox application, and then email a public link to the ePub to a Posterous blog so it will "post" as a publicly accessible link for anyone to download
"In this 3.5 minute screencast, digital learning consultant Wesley Fryer demonstrates how to use the $4 iPad application "eBook Creator" to export an enhanced eBook (in ePub format) to the DropBox application, and then email a public link to the ePub to a Posterous blog so it will "post" as a publicly accessible link for anyone to download. The following iPad apps are required to follow these steps:"
"Question: I'm using an iPad to try and view an eBook created by a student with the Book Creator app. The finished eBook is posted on Posterous.com. It downloaded to my iPad and shows up in the iBooks app, but it won't open. What should I do?"
"Learn how to setup, use and moderate content on a classroom blog to improve student writing skills. A moderated classroom blog is the ideal platform to use to share announcements, classroom news, and student work for a public audience. In this workshop we'll use several free blogging and learning management tools. These will include KidBlog (powered by WordPress), My Big Campus, and Edmodo. We'll also explore how free Posterous.com sites can be used to share rich media including images, audio and video files from iPads including "cart-based" iPads using a shared student "sending" email account. In addition, we'll learn how to create enhanced/multimedia eBooks including digital text, hyperlinks, images, and embedded videos using iPad apps as well as other software programs. These will include Book Creator for iPad, iBooks Author software, Apple Pages software (part of iWork), and Calibre software (free and cross-platform).
Digital Show and Tell from Day 2"
Eschool news shares their best apps for education. Unfortunately, they named WordLens #1 and I've had a horrible time making that app work. When I take it into our Spanish teacher's room where she has handwritten posters, it just won't translate. Maybe it is working better for others.
"We have been using the iPads in our Year 6 classroom. The students were very excited at the prospect of using iPads in our day-to-day learning. Our aim with the iPad was to use them for as many hours in the school day as we could. We have found the iPads beneficial in English groups and Maths groups. I have downloaded many applications for the students to use. I have noticed that new apps are added each day so regularly checking the app store has been beneficial. "
"As a department we spent the day today looking at our planning and how it could be improved. As a department that has embraced the use of the iPads as a teaching aid we were discussing how we use the different apps in our teaching."
"In DigiDesign club at the end of last term, ten of our Grade 6s were tasked with creating marketing videos for our school. They had to plan their videos by brainstorming ideas with Popplet and then they had to film the video of our school and use iMovie to edit and create the final videos - all on the iPads!"
