Apps in Education: Kathy Casey's iPad Resources Collection on Pearltrees - 4 views

  •
" found this one the other day and was impressed with the quality of the links. Kathy Casey has obviously spent a good deal of time collecting great resources for using the iPads in the classroom. This is the sort of curation and sharing that Pearltrees was designed for and Kathy has certainly used it well. "

How the iPad 2 Became My Favorite Computer - 7 views

  •
"I respectfully disagree with Shanklin. I think it's possible to use an iPad as one's primary device for professional-level content creation. Actually, scratch that. I'm positive it's possible-because I've been doing it for the past three months, and I've been having a really good time."

Using Speech to Text Apps on your iPad - 18 views

  •
There are a number of apps that are available that let you record your voice in order to convert it to text. I find this helpful when I need to transcribe longer pieces or even if I need to transcribe multiple entries. This technology is not yet perfect but it has improved considerably since these apps first came on the market. The first time I tried these app I got about 30% of the words correct, that figure is now more like 85% and with some effort on your part can be as high as 95%. Even with the minor inconsistencies it is still a quicker way for me to do larger pieces of text. I find these good when I want to just get the text down for a piece that I will spend some time formatting later. These are great for students as well, especially those kids who display great verbal intelligence but struggle with the written word.

iPads at Burley: Using Edmodo in Writer's Workshop - 5 views

  •
"I've been experimenting with how to use the iPads in my fifth grade writer's workshop. I decided to try it out by launching a unit of study using my document camera, student iPads, and Edmodo. Usually we study a wide variety of mentor texts so that we can understand what the genre is and students can begin to notice good things that they want to include in their writing."

Best Free iPad App of the Week: Frequency - iPad Insight - 12 views

  •
"This week's pick is Frequency. Frequency is described on its App Store page as 'your personal video service'. It's another excellent, social and highly customizable video app for the iPad. This is rapidly becoming a category where iPad users are spoiled for choice - and that's a very good thing given how crummy the selection is on TV these days."

Need a Giant Thermometer on Your iPad? There's an App for That - iPad Insight - 5 views

  •
"Thermo is about as simple an iPad app as you could ask for. It does one thing and does it quite nicely - with a bit of big and bold thrown in for good measure. Its App Store page describes it as a 'little pocket thermometer', which is a throwback to its days as just an iPhone app."
