Copper Updates: Copper in Shanghai declined on speculation that Chinese leaders' tolerance for a slower growth rate will curb demand growth at the largest user. Metal for delivery in September fell as much as 1.3 % to 52,230 yuan ($8,523) a metric ton on the Shanghai Futures Exchange and was at 52,560 yuan. Net-short positions, held by funds fell to 9,033 futures and options contracts as of May 21 from 13,115 a week earlier.. Since the last few sessions, MCX gold is trading near the medium-term rising trendline. On the higher side, there are multiple resistances to put pressure on the yellow metal. Gold dropped 1 percent to a session low of USD 1,460.49 an ounce on Tuesday as holdings on SPDR Gold Trust, the world's largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund, plunged to their lowest since 2009. Daily outflows from exchange-traded funds highlighted investors' lack of confidence in the precious metal after prices sank to around $1,321 on April 16, their lowest in more than two years, in a brutal sell-off that stunned investors.... Base metal futures may rise early next week on hopes of improved demand following upbeat US jobs data, but profit booking at higher levels and demand concerns from China will limit gains. The price of copper responded with unusual vigor to Friday's strong payroll report. The metal's most actively traded futures contract jumped 6.8%, hitting a threeweek high and staging what Dow Jones Newswires says was the biggest single-day gain in a year and a half. Copper finished up over 6% as shorts scrambled to cover after Nonfarm Payrolls and the Unemployment Rate in the US came in better than expected. In the case of the Payrolls number, it was the revision of the previous month (from 88k to 138k) that really got the market excited.... China PMI numbers has declined and so are the non ferrous metals that were surging higher until yesterday on the back of expectations of rise in PMI. The purchasing managers' index (PMI) for China's manufacturing sector fell to 50.4 percent in January from 50.6 percent in December, the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP) said Friday. Precious metals prices rose in unison with equities and commodities on Friday, notching a weekly gain, after U.S. nonfarm payrolls data showed modest job growth in January. SILVER prices on MCX declined. At 11:07 hrs MCX SILVER March contract was trading at Rs 58282 down Rs 136, or 0.23%. The SILVER rate touched an intraday high of Rs 58369 and an intraday low of Rs 58195. So far 2254 contracts have been traded.
