History of Djinn folklore - by Hannah Barton - Page 2 - Helium - 0 views

  • he will try and stray as many of Adam's descendants off the path to their deity during his period of respite. God accepts this as Iblis says, and lets him and his children roam the earth to test the wills of Adam's children. The rest of that story says he was sent to earth with Adam and Eve after he was able to lure them into eating the apple. On the Day of Judgement, it is assumed that Iblis will be sent to Jannaham, the Islamic form of Hell.

Theolog: Save me from the wrath of God - 0 views

  •
Of course God can get angry... He's like a parent when their kids misbehave.... The people in the Old Testament days were constantly screwing up... making idols, not trusting God, etc, etc.. but once they repented of their sin God delivered them.... It's the same in the Old as it is in the New.

Marshall Applewhite's cry for help - 0 views

  • What prompts cult leaders to go completely over the edge, like Applewhite? Power. It corrupts them. They break down and become psychotic. We saw it down in Waco, Texas with the Branch Davidians, and we saw it down in Guyana with Jim Jones' Peoples' Temple. Then they go one of two ways: They build up an arsenal of weapons to prepare for the apocalypse, or they go the passive way. And that's what probably happened to Applewhite. His whole world was breaking down, and he induced his followers to go along with him. He used the old cry of "Let's do it before it happens." Every suicide that I've ever treated wants to take matters into their own hands. It's their last power. And they all believe that there is another world. These people (Heaven's Gate members) packed suitcases before they committed suicide.

Religious and Secular Jews in Israel - 0 views

  • There are many organizations which are working on healing relations between religious and secular Jews in Israel and they are using a large variety of approaches for tackling the issue. Although many of these organizations have been around for quite a few years, since the Rabin assassination new organizations have been created and pre-existing ones have become more active. They can be divided into roughly three categories: political, conflict-driven and educational.
  • One challenge that many organizations face is attracting people to their programs- particularly the ultra-orthodox. The influence of the media in inflaming perceptions and encouraging stereotypes is another area that is identified as a challenge.

Your choice of college major may affect your religious views - Ars Technica - 0 views

      This is an interesting theory.
  • Education majors had a positive correlation with both the level of religious importance in one's life and the frequency of attendance at religious services.
  • For the physical sciences, including biology, the overall trend was neutral, with no major change in religiosity. Somewhat oddly, these students showed increased attendance at religious services, but a reduced sense of religious importance.
  • ...1 more annotation...
  • Those who attended religious services more regularly were more likely to attend college later. For those in the humanities and social sciences, a negative correlation was seen in both measures of religiosity.
