Cottage Style Decor - 0 views

  • Patterns In some subdivisions of the cottage home decor style, you may find a lot of mixing and matching with patterns. This is especially true in the bedroom, or living room, as it’s not unusual to mix different patterns on the pillows and upholstery, or on the bedding and pillows. When attempting to mix and match different patterns in the space, pick a single color and then choose two or three different patterns that use that same color. This allows you to maintain a cohesive look that even a professional interior designer may be envious of. Remember, cottage decor and shabby chic decor are two different things. Cottage is comfortable, cozy and somewhat traditional. Shabby chic is all about vintage, worn and well loved pieces. Though it’s easy to blur the lines between the two, it’s important to know the difference between these two styles of home decor.

Cottage style home decor is uniquely different from shabby chic style home decor. Though these two styles share some similarities, both also have a unique array of home accessories and decor that fall entirely into their individual styles. That being said, it can be difficult to differentiate between cottage home accessories and shabby chic accessories. This guide will help you get started on finding cottage style home accessories and decor.

Getting Started with Firefox extension - Diigo help - 0 views

  •  Feature Highlight: Highlights Diigo saves the day with "highlights". Highlights let you select the important snippets on a page and store them in your library with the page's bookmark. Let's try it. Just open a page, maybe one of your old-school bookmarks or one of your new cat bookmarks, and find the information on that page you actually care about. Select that important text. Got it? Okay, now put your hemet on, 'cause this might blow your mind! Click the highlight icon on the Diigo toolbar. It's the one with the "T" on a page with a yellow highlighter. You will notice that the selected text gets a yellow background. This means that the text has been saved in your library, and as long as you have the Diigo add-on the text will be highlighted on the page! How's that for easy?   Now you've highlighted the text. It will appear in your library within the bookmark for the page it is on. Go to your library and you can see how it works. If you're not sure how to get to your library, just click the second icon on the toolbar (Diigo icon to the left of the search bar) and then select "My Library »".
  • Sticky Notes on the Web What? I can put a sticky note on a web page? How? Oh, that's right! Diigo. Just right-click anywhere on the page and choose to "add a floating sticky note". Type up your note and choose "Post", then move the note anywhere on the page. You have to type a note first, before you move it where you want, otherwise there's nothing to move!

Living in Small Spaces: Decorating Tips and Tricks - 0 views

  • Small Space Design Rules Arianna Belle via  When decorating all small space, the most important thing to remember is that the rules are meant to be broken. A lot of people assume that you can’t use bold colors or patterns when decorating a small space, but this simply isn’t true. In fact, a bold color on the walls or a brightly patterned sofa can make a statement that it may have been lost in a larger space. So, break the rules! Remember, in a small space, the most important rule is to go with what works for you.
  •
When you live in a small space, you tend to throw caution to the wind when trying to find the right furniture pieces, accessories and lighting fixtures. It can be extremely difficult to decorate a small space, especially if you've recently downgraded from a larger space or are in your first small living space. Whether you're living in 150 or 500 square feet, consider putting some of these tips and tricks to work.

DESIGN my heart out: guest post: Brilliant Hues - 0 views

  • Brilliant orange chairs pop against the aqua of the beautiful wallpaper in this SF dining room. Love the clarity of the orange; it has a lot of white in it.
  • Love the pops of brilliant color based off of the beautiful modern portrait in this Hollywood Regency style living room. Jewel tone fuchsia and yellow look amazing next to gold accents. Love the asymmetrical look of the chandelier used in this space.
  •
My focus today is on brilliant hues, those colors that zing with intensity, adding energy and style to a space. These intense colors can have a big impact in a room so if you aren't feeling brave and bold, use them as accent colors in decorative accessories or lighting fixtures.

Trends in Mirrors - 0 views

  • Though typically interior designers recommend against investing in trends, mirrors are one trend that you can safely invest in without fear of it going out of style. However, as with any trend, there are certain guidelines you should adhere to. For example, avoid trendy finishes on the mirror, such as etching or embedded trim, as these can date the mirror and look them out of style. Remember, however, that your frames can easily be swapped out as your style of home decor changes and you can find frames in traditional, contemporary or modern styles.
  •
Mirrors have moved from the walls and into other areas of home accessories and decor. Of course, this also means that new trends have come about and there are a number of new home accessories that can bring these trends into your home decor. Fortunately, mirrors are one trend that doesn't seem to go away but rather manifests itself in different ways over the years. Here are some recent trends in mirrors that have emerged over the past few years.

Look online, at thrift stores and local tag and estate sales for vintage accessories and lighting fixtures to create stylish rooms with a vintage feel.

How to Redesign an Old-Style House? - 1 views

Painted floors « 508 Restoration & Design - 0 views

  • One of the easiest ways to completely transform the look of a room is to paint the floors. What may seem like a daunting home decor project is actually quite simple – when carefully planned, a pattern painted on a wood floor creates instant style impact. Add a few great furniture pieces, a living room, dining room, or bedroom can instantly become magazine-worthy.
  • Hip to be square Use a great painted floor design that resembles large square tiles to pull together mismatching furniture. Add a ceiling light like a giant hanging lantern and organic home accessories to complete the room.
