There are so many apps available, it can be overwhelming to find the right ones. Here is a list of 15 free apps which I have found useful. I am using all of them on my iPad but many are also available for other mobile devices.
1. Flipboard
This has become my favorite app and I use it more than anything else. It turns all of your social streams from sites like Facebook and Twitter into a virtual magazine. You can also add any other sites that you love to read to read on the go. The layout of this app is just beautiful.
site where you will find several hundred pages of information describing the "flow of history" . . . from the evolutionary processes that formed out bodies, to the forces of globalization that exploded in the 1990s.
If you are not familure w/ CAST's work visit their site to learn more . . . http://www.cast.org. I love these guys. They have been working on a curriculum frame work called Universal Design for Learning
Most folks know about this site, but it never hurts to have a reminder. Awesome site and can be used as an excellent research tool . . . just to demonstrate how unreliable the web can be as a primary source. Don't get me wrong! I think the web is one of the most amazing tools available to educators but we must teacher our students how to use it effectively.
E-commerce has become a gold mine of opportunities in the modern world. However, why does an online store often fail? What is the reason why only 2 out of every 50 e-Commerce sites are successful? Apply 10 infallible online shopping solution on your own page. It's not just about the main entrance to your page, but about creating a unique and private shopping experience.
Digital Vaults gives you and your kids a place to find raw materials that are arranged in ways that may make more sense to them. The site is set up a bit like a social network.
I love this site because of how nicely it plays w/ our SMART
Boards. It has become a great tool for initiating discussions in ELA
classrooms. Simply hit the "Random" button and discuss the word w/ your class. You
can of course use this as a vocabulary extension activity as well. I worked w/
one class using Visuwords where we tried to predict (as a class and in small
groups . . . nice way to allow for differentiation) related nouns, verbs, etc. This
activity created engaging classroom discussion!
In the schools where we have access to a SMART Board we use the pens to write
our predictions, capture them to the Notebook and then discussed the discrepancies.
Let me know how you use it in your classroom!
