I am disturbed by the Putin editorial in the NY Times last Wednesday, not because of the content of his message but because the venerable NY Times editorial board was persuaded by a large and powerful PR firm to allow Putin's comments to be printed on the editorial page. Is this the beginning of the end of freedom of the press, one of the most important values of American democracy? I would have welcomed Mr. Putin's commentary if he had submitted, as other intelligent writers do, his editorial to the Times editorial board for review and approval. There's something unsavory about a large global PR firm influencing the content of the NY Times daily newspaper.
