HOGENEKKAL FALLS: Confluence of hundreds of waterfalls in one falls - 0 views

  •
Creating the mesmerizing falls in Shivanasamudra, the mighty Cauvery turns east to flow in all her beauty. Before reaching the Mettur dam, the Cauvery falls from a great height to make a stunning display of her power. This is Hogenekkal. The fall is so robust that it creates sheets of wind sprinkling many droplets of water all around. It is as though thick smoke is moving towards us. Hence, the falls gets its name Hogenekkal: Hoge means smoke. When the water gushes in joy over the boulders, they create tiny rapids. Sometimes, when sunlight falls over these rapids, beautiful rainbows form. To get close to the falls, one must take a coracle ride for one km against the flow of the river. At Hogenekkal, the Cauvery splits into two streams and several branches before dropping down in a gush. During the monsoon, her force is immense, and it is difficult to go near her although the splendour of the falls is visible from afar. In the other seasons, the falls are a milder version of her fierce nature, and it is possible to get closer. The fish food and oil massage here are famous.
