The BSE Sensex bounced back quite nicely on Friday, gaining more than 100 points in early trade after the government notified all FDI decisions taken last week despite withdrawal of support by Trinamool Congress. Banks, infrastructure, telecom and metals stocks led the support.

There were quite a few triggers yesterday. First, the inflation numbers sort of cemented hopes of an interest rate cut from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on the January 29. Now, it is no longer a discussion on the street on whether it will move. What is being discussed is whether it will be 25 bps or 50 bps. The Nifty lost quite a bit of ground from highs of 5450. It finally closed flat at 5385 up 10 points. Sensex too saw some major cuts but closed 21 points up at 17752. Bullion tips & updates : Gold futures closed lower in the native market on yesterday as investors and speculators quit their positions in the precious metal as Fed Chair Janet Yellen's remarks overnight in which she signaled that a December interest rate hike was a "live possibility" weighed on the yellow metal which becomes less attractive in a rising interest rate scenario.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) kicked off earnings season with the release of their FY23-Q3 results on Monday. Meanwhile, IT giant Infosys outperformed the street expectations by reporting a consolidated net profit of ₹6,586 in Q3FY23, up 13.4% YoY and 9.4% QoQ.
