Cardamom prices extended gains, rising by 2.02 per cent on Monday at the domestic markets at the domestic markets as traders increased their positions tracking a pick up in the demand for the commodity due to the upcoming festival and wedding season in the midst of low arrivals. At MCX, Cardamom futures for December 2012 contract were trading at Rs. 864.50 per kg, up by 2.02 per cent, after opening at Rs. 849.70 against the previous closing price of Rs. 847.40. It touched the intra-day high of Rs. 872.80 till the trading.

Nickel prices closed higher by 0.67 per cent on Wednesday at the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) in the midst of a pick up in the demand from alloy makers in the market. Nickel futures for December 2012 contract, at MCX, closed at Rs. 887.40 per kg, up by 0.67 per cent after opening at Rs. 884.50 against the previous closing price of Rs. 881.50. It touched the intra-day high of Rs. 893.20. Major producers of Nickel are Russia, followed by Australia, Canada, New Caledonia and Indonesia, which represents over 65 per cent of total world production.

Chana prices closed lower by 0.96 per cent on Thursday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited as a result of the steady sowing progress of pulses along with high supplies in major producing states. At the NCDEX, chana futures for December 2012 contract closed at Rs. 4,233 per quintal, down by 0.96 per cent, after opening at Rs. 4,275 against the previous closing price of Rs. 4,274. It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 4,225.

Maize prices closed lower by 0.76 per cent on Thursday at NCDEX as a result of heavy selling activity by the traders on account of higher global supplies and weak offtakes from the local buyers. At the NCDEX, maize futures for December 2012 contract closed at Rs. 1,443 per quintal, down by 0.76 per cent, after opening at Rs. 1,458 against the previous closing price of Rs. 1,454. It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 1,436

The BSE Sensex closed the day yesterday at 1996403, 146.40 points higher than earlier close. Yesterday, the oil ministry also did a partial decontrol of diesel price allowing a hike of 40-50 paise per month. And nearly Rs 11 for bulk consumers. Indian indices gained mighty strength on Tuesday as it ended trading session at the highest point of the day. Gold prices continued its downward journey, falling for the third day on Wednesday at the domestic markets in the midst of subdued physical demand for the bullion in the domestic spot market.

Gold futures for April 2013 contract, at MCX, were trading at Rs. 29,558 per 10 grams, down by 0.04 per cent after opening at Rs. 29,565 against the previous closing price of Rs. 29,569.

Air India is the first off the blocks to slash fares on tickets booked in advance for 60 days and beyond in order to attract passengers during the forthcoming summer holidays.

The scheme could trigger a third round of price war among airlines. SpiceJet had first cut fares in January followed by Jet Airways, which announced a low fare bonanza for domestic routes in February on the same lines.

Emerging market equity funds witnessed their biggest weekly redemption since early September, primarily due to Italy's inconclusive election and the Cyprus bank bailout, a report says.
